Daugavpils District (Latvian: Daugavpils rajons) is an administrative division of Latvia in the province of Latgale. It is organized into two cities and twentyone parishes, each with a local government authority.[1] Its capital city is Daugavpils.
Daugavpils District are is 2 525.5 km2, which contains 21 parishes, 1 city and 1 region.
Daugavpils District is located in Latvia's southeastern area. It also borders with Belarus, Lithuania, Jēkabpils district, Preiļi District and Krāslava District.
Daugavpils District is situated in geographical region of East-Latvian lowland, Latgalian eminence and Augšzeme Height. Most of its territory is located low below the sea level. Only few landmarks are higher than 200 m above sea level. They are the foloving mountains Egļu kalns (220.1 m), Piķeļnieku kalns (206 m), Lediņu kalns (202 m), Skrudalienas kalns (201 m). Almost all of the territory is located in the Daugava river basin. Besides Daugava river there are many large and small rivers.
