Cleaning your computer is fairly easy, if you’re running your computer 8 hours or more a day, I would recommend a cleaning every 3 to 6 months and that depends on the amount of dust and location of your computer.
1st unplug computer from power (wall outlet). Also you may want to use a label maker or color code to identify where each cable goes for future reference and it would be best to set the unit on a table to be comfortable while cleaning your computer
Note: When inside the computer take the necessary ESD precautions and try to avoid unplugging any cables or other connections inside the PC.
Below is a listing cleaning supply’s you may need or want to use while cleaning your computer or computer peripherals and case. Keep in mind that some components in your computer may only be able to be cleaned using a cleaning product designed for cleaning that computer part.
Cloth - A lint-free cloth can be used when rubbing down a computer hardware don’t use a cloth like bath towel because the threads will snag on circuit board components we recommend a smooth lint-free absorbent paper towel type cloth when ever possible.
Water or rubbing alcohol – Alcohol works best, because of quick drying.
Portable Vacuum or Compressed air – We used a light weight portable vacuum with the option of sucking dust up and then blowing dust away from components or use compressed air and hopefully you get a vacuum with small attachments for those hard to reach places.
Paint Brush (small) – Brush tip can be moistened with rubbing alcohol to reach the hard to reach places on keyboards loosen dust and dirt between the keyboard keys, the paint brush works great for this.
Cotton swabs and Foam swabs - Cotton swaps moistened with rubbing alcohol or water are excellent tools for wiping hard to reach areas in your keyboard too, mouse, and other small cleaning areas.
Unscrew your case cover and place the screws in a safe place, now you the dust collection of your computer. Now you may start with vacuuming the dust first, vacuum power supply fan usually located in back of the PC, you may have to use a cotton swab to get dust from fan blades.
Use compressed air for CPU Fan too. You may also use a cotton swab to clean fan blades on CPU fan. You may use compressed air for blowing dust period if you desire. Use lint free towel moistened with water or alcohol prefer alcohol for fast drying, wipe down where ever you see dust, clean all vents to assure proper ventilation and to keep your computer from overheating, continue wiping down the inside of your CD-ROM, CD-RW, Hard Drives and allow alcohol to dry and reassemble your computer wipe down the outside of your Computer with alcohol that will clean any smudges and plug cables back in back of PC, Power Cable last and your done.
You just saved yourself some Money and a trip to computer shop.
