[edit] History

[edit] Early history as Vetter Solutions, Inc

DataSync was founded in May 2004 by Mike "Olaf" Vetter. He started a company called Vetter Solutions out of his father's basement while attending college at Dakota State University. The company provided home PC services, business networking and administration, and some web development. In June 2005 Vetter Solutions moved to an office and hired its first employee: Michael Moser. The company added web development and e-commerce services. Dustin Schnabel, who was at the time attending Dakota State University was hired for Information Assurance. All three continue to run the company.

[edit] Launch of DataSync

By the end of 2006, the company began the transition to the name "DataSync" because of its focus on business services. 2006 and the first half of 2007 were transitional years for the company. Vetter Solutions built a backup system and began selling the system locally. However due to lack of funding for product development and marketing, the project was shelved in favor of focusing on other services. Experimental marketing for security services and consulting were also met with less than desirable results. The company struggled with focus and direction during this time. Through this challenge, the team at DataSync began experimenting with a few solid open source applications, and began to see a solid business opportunity in hosting and integrating business software.

[edit] Move to open source

In September 2007, the company began the transition out of IT services, and began focusing on a new business model: open source software hosting and development, including Software as a Service (SaaS). By November 2007, this model was generating significant revenue growth and is now the company's core business.
