DataDirect is an operating company of Progress Software Corporation Progress Software Corporation(Nasdaq:PRGS), a US$300+ million global software industry leader [1], which is headquartered in Bedford, Massachusetts. DataDirect Technologies is a provider of software for connecting business applications to data and services, running on any platform, using proven and emerging standards [1]. More than 300 leading independent software vendors and thousands of enterprises rely on DataDirect Technologies to simplify and streamline data connectivity for distributed systems and to reduce the complexity of mainframe integration [1]. DataDirect currently has 3 product lines: Shadow Version 7, Connect, and XQuery.

Awards: DataDirect has won numerous awards for their industry leading connectivity software. Some of their most recent awards include:
• 2007 Editor's Choice Awards winner by SQL Server Magazine
• SD Times 100 Industry Influencers of 2007
• Six Time Omega NorthFace Scoreboard Award for excellence in Customer Service
• Best of Tech-Ed 2007 Award Finalist for DataDirect's "Connect" Software

Shadow Version 7 provides a real-time foundation architecture to support all the industry standard requirements for integrating mainframe data, business logic, and screens with distributed application development initiatives. Just as an enterprise services bus (ESB) provides industry standard connectivity between disparate platforms, Shadow Version 7 provides interoperability across multiple mainframe data and application environments [2].

Connect provides the industries only suite of wire protocol ODBC drivers for Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Sybase, Informix, and MySQL. Connect's ODBC drivers do not require database client libraries and connect directly to the database for better overall performance thand free drivers from database vendors [3].

The XQuery product is an XQuery processor that enables developers to access and query XML, relational data, SOAP messages, EDI, legacy, or a combination of data sources, and, in addition, provides full update support for relational data. DataDirect XQuery supports the XQuery for Java (XQJ) API, and is easily embeddable into any Java program — it does not require any other product or application server, and has no server of its own [4]. It is recommended for developers who need to combine and efficiently process XML, relational, and legacy data formats in application scenarios such as data integration, XML-based data exchange, XML-driven web sites, and XML publishing. DataDirect XQuery vastly simplifies and enhances the performance of combining and processing different types of data (relational, XML, legacy, EDI, and more) in heterogeneous environments and thus enables developers to build and deploy high-performance applications quickly and efficiently [4].
