[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Whcilogo.gif
Thank you for uploading Image:Whcilogo.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 03:53, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:School image.gif
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:School image.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] School image.gif
If you don't own the copyright to this image, you cannot release it into the public domain. If you are a representative of West Hill, or if you've received permission from them, please see WP:OTRS on how to confirm the release of otherwise copyrighted material under a free license, or post a release notice on the original publishing website. If you've any questions, don't hestitate to ask. WilyD 17:19, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:School photo.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:School photo.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:08, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

- I took this photo for the school's website back in 2001, and I'm trying to use it for its Wikipedia page too. I don't care how this image is used, there is no copyright, the school hasn't copyrighted it, and I would love it if someone knew how to tag this image properly would just do it for me so we don't have to keep on going through these deletion warnings! It's absolutely fair use!!! Daseincog 19:46, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Fair use in Wikipedia is somewhat different from that in the United States (and if you're a fellow Canuck, somewhat different from our concept of fair dealings). If you own the photo, you can release it under a host of free licenses that would allow it's use in Wikipedia (in addition to elsewhere), but generally photos taken from websites are dangerous territory - the appearence of West Hill's website suggests they own the photo, you see. I'll have to look into the issue more. WilyD 19:53, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for looking into this. Here is the link where the image is used: http://schools.tdsb.on.ca/westhill/mainPage.htm, and there is absolutely no copyright anywhere on the site. That's also because the school website changes and is completely designed by students and I would love it if I could tag it with something that is free, because again, I took the photo years ago. - You don't need to claim copyright to own it, and you haven't for quite some time. In general, where somebody is at least quasi-reputable, and publishes an image in this fashion without credit or such, the assumption is that they own the copyright. If you created this image, and lent it to the school, the easiest step might be for you to email the school, asking them to confirm that you own the copyright to the image, and forward their response to WP:OTRS. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:McGill-Logo.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:McGill-Logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:36, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
