[edit] Jesus/Josephus
- Jesus said, "Turn the other cheek." He was crucified by Pilate after this action. No other candidate has been proposed for the leader of the Caesarea action. I have not yet heard or read one single good argument againts Jesus being the leader of this action. Plenty of good reasons for, no reason against. - Das Baz, 15 February 2006, 10:08 Nonviolent resistance article ---
Ammonite is another name for the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi. -- User:Das Baz 16:44, 16 Februa
If the whole world rejects the truth, it still remains the truth. -- User:Das Baz 16:44, 16 February 2
It is not just that the Caesarean Incident is close to the Crucifixion account. It is also that Jesus was the first great Teacher of Nonviolent Resistance, and thus the most likely candidate for the leader of the Caesarean Protest.
Learn to discuss theories rationally instead of calling for censorship and preventing the free exchange of ideas. How do you know other people do not accept the theory if you suppress it and erase it? -- User:Das Baz 16:44, 16 February 2006 Hey, it was I, Das Baz, who created the article on Nonviolent Resistance in the first place. Give people a chance to consider the theory. -- User:Das Baz 16:44, 16 February 2006
Gandhi may have independently discovered this theory, since he considered Jesus his teacher on Nonviolent Resistance.- Das Baz, 16 February 2006. -10:43 AM. Why exactly does this theory, the Caesarean Paradigm, enrage you so much? What exactly is your problem with it? - DB.
And, by the way, I had absolutely nothing to do with that French-Turkish linguistic idea. -Das Baz, 3/2/2006, 10:27 AM
[edit] 22nd century
You have again added Mozarts anniversary to the major anniversaries-list. Could we talk about this? I don't think it's very useful to mention his 350th birthday. Why not add his 400th anniversary in 2156 as well? Thanks. --Leo44 (talk) 17:43, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Hey, what do you have against Mozart? He's the greatest musician ever.- Das Baz 25 February 2006, 11:52 AM
- Uhm, do you understand my question? I have nothing against Mozart, I only have something against non-significant anniversaries like 350 years or something of the like. If it'd been his 250th aniversary, it would be quite different. Don't you agree? --Leo44 (talk) 18:18, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Okay, just so as not to prolong a trivial debate, I agree to keep just the 250th anniversaries and the centennial anniversaries, and leave the rest out. - Das Baz, 3/1/2006
Good sir, I thought we had a deal? --Leo44 (talk) 19:52, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
I thought the deal was - 250th anniversary and the centennial anniversaries - 200th, 300th, 400th, 500th. Not the 350th, 450th, 550th, etc. If anyone put in any of those, it was not myself. Das Baz, 4/4/06, 10:26 AM.
Well, I thought the deal was: only significant anniversaries, not anniversaries which happen every century. A centennial anniversary happens every century and is therefore not significant. 250th, 500th, 750th etc, do not happen every century and are therefore more significant. Everything turns one-hundred years older every century, even the birth of Mozart. --Leo44 (talk) 19:40, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Well, it seems to me that things that happen once a century are significant, and most people agree with this view. If you are going to suppress Mozart's 300th and 400th anniversaries, then to be consistent you have to suppress all 300th and 400th anniversaries, including 2076 and 2176, the tricentennial and quadricentennial of American Independence. Das Baz, April 6, 2006, 10:40 AM
[edit] Yoda
Please stop adding that link to the Yoda article. Nufy8 23:54, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Why? It's a perfectly good link. What do you have against it? Das Baz, 24 May 2006. 9:52 AM.
- I thought the vegetarian interview with Yoda was amusing, but not a reference source. Bejnar 16:43, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
It is not only humorous, but also though-provoking, a good example of the influence of Yoda on modern thought.Das Baz 15:22, 2 June 2006 (UTC) Anyway, for those who want to decide for themselves, here is the link: Article by Urrutia: "Interview with Master Yoda."
- Actually, that link doesn't take us to the Interview with Yoda, but to a different article in that particular blog. The correct link is here: Article by Benjamin Urrutia: Interview with Master Yoda." I, for one, thought it was a brilliant interview. It's too bad George Lucas didn't see fit to include it in one of the movies.--Aramink 23:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Petrovichi
I really enjoyed the work you put into the Petrovichi article. It really reads well. Bejnar 16:43, 1 June 2006 (UTC) Thank you very much, Bejnar. As you can tell, I am a big fan of Dr. Isaac Asimov of blessed memory. Das Baz 15:21, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 2006
Hi. I've removed the following entry from 2006#June:
This is already mentioned in the entry for the initial event:
- June 9 - An explosion kills eight Palestinian civilians on a Gaza beach. Four days later Israel denies responsibility for the blast.
Pburka 17:48, 23 June 2006 (UTC) OK, that's acceptable and makes sense. Das Baz 16:10, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hi. I've also removed this entry:
- This attack caused no injuries or significant damage. I don't think that we can include every event like this in the 2006 page. (I'm not picking on Israel, BTW; I've removed many other minor events from the page). Pburka 04:31, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
You're right, it was really a minor incident without casualties or major damage. It looks even less important in light of subsequent developments. 16:38, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your Edit to Till We Have Faces
Das Baz, really, I have to say yours was a jewel of an addition to the Till We Have Faces article. It's not simply a clever edit; it is most certainly there to stay in the article...you might want to furnish a reference from the literature on the topic to solidify your addition's accepted permanence. You described succinctly the correlation between the ancient Cupid and Psyche myth and the contemporary Beauty and the Beast tale that has survived to this day. Also, browsing your talk page, I see we have many of the same interests: Isaac Asimov, Star Wars, LDS Church, Josephus as a historical document, C.S. Lewis, and Israeli/Palestinian current events, among other things. Cheers --Piewalker 19:00, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
To that list we can add as being among my main interests: Alexander the Great, Ancient Israelite History, Animal Rights, Anime, the Future, Israeli Poetry, Jesus, Manga, Mozart, Nonviolent Resistance, Tolkien, Veganism, Vegetarianism. Das Baz 15:27, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Take a look at the latest pushes and pulls at Till We Have Faces. I've used your argument about not needing to referencing everything in the whole world, especially if it's common sense and verifiable. Please support if you feel so inclined. Piewalker 00:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Animals in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
This article was just listed for speedy delete by an anon - I am notifying you since you contributed to the article :) Animals in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints --Trödel 20:47, 20 July 2006 (UTC) Thank you very much for the alert. The anon is obviously just motivated by bigotry. Das Baz 15:35, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
What did you think about the whole AfD discussion? Your illumination was notably absent. Piewalker 17:00, 28 July 2006
- I will need more time and study before I can say something useful about "Articles for Deletion" in general. Ask me about specific points, and I shall tell you what I think. I am certainly very much against deleting Animals in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and said so. Das Baz 17:02, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- I was just hoping to hear you chime in the anti-deletion discussion, which has now evolved into a merge discussion. You had what I thought to be good points to preserve the article. Now that has been accomplished, the aforementioned merge discussion is taking shape on the LDS Church and Animals talk pages that I think you could certainly influence. I'm not attempting to "lure" you into discussion or create work for you that you don't have time or interest for; I merely wanted to raise your awareness that there's some interesting posts I've been responding to that perhaps may be up your alley, too. Saw Miami Vice today. Farrell was better in Alexander. I take it from your pro-Formicidae response on my talk page about war that you saw The Ant Bully? I said to myself, "there's gotta be something behind her preoccupation with ants." From the article you referred to..."Ants have colonized almost every landmass on Earth. They can constitute up to 15% of the total animal biomass of a tropical rainforest; in the Amazon the combined weight of the ants is said to be four times larger than that of the tetrapods in the same area." [edit] Book: Wikipedia for Dummies
I think that it would be a good idea. I am always finding new projects, 'rules', templates, systems etc. on Wikipedia that I did not even suspect. Some people do like to have a book in their hand, even when doing things electronically. It would be a lot of work, even though the material is all there (somewhere) in the Wikipedia: articles. Outlining what to cover would be a good start. The five pillars of Wikipedia (and links) doesn't begin to cover it. In the past, I've found IDG Books open for suggestions, but I was never been willing to commit to their production cycle. Hungry Minds, Inc., a Delaware corporation, on October 31, 2000, was merged into IDG Books Worldwide, Inc., a Delaware corporation, under the name "Hungry Minds, Inc." and then it was purchased by Wiley Publishing, Inc. I have not dealt with Wiley editors. They say "It is Wiley's policy not to accept unsolicited proposals for books in the For Dummies series. You may send us a copy of your credentials for our files or contact a literary agent to submit a proposal on your behalf. If you choose to submit a proposal through an agent and do not already have one, we suggest that you consult a publication like Literary Market Place that offers contact information for literary agents. Please be aware that Wiley Publishing, Inc. retains the right to publish a book, at any time, on any topic." Bejnar 17:16, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- If you think about it, all involved authors need to be recruited and in agreement of the project before we approach a publisher. And really, there's gotta come a time when we cap recruiting. Roles would need to be fleshed out. We'd need one dedicated project manager. The distribution of workload needs to be planned for if this thing would reach fruition. Not to mention, any major Wiki events will need to be tracked throughout the editing process to prevent inaccurate or outdated content from making it into the first edition. Iff any one of us has an agent (I do not), it could help overall, but I'm concerned about preferential treatment given to that particular "represented" author. Piewalker 17:39, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your edits to September 18 and 1948
- September 18, 1948 - At 10:15 AM, Yoni Abramski, age 12, is shot and murdered by a Jordanian sniper on Nehemiah Street in Jerusalem.
The day and year topics are intended for links to existing articles in Wikipedia. Also, a Google search for "Yoni Abramski" returns no results (at least, none in English). And (I know this sounds unkind when the topic is the death of a child), links on these pages should indicate why an event is particularly notable.
-- Jim Douglas 23:38, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- It was particularly notable to his mother, his family, his friends, his neighbors, and all Israel. Das Baz 23:40, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- Understood, however the incident does not appear to be well known to the English-speaking world. A google search finds nothing, and a search of the NYTimes archives for the period finds no relevant matches for "Abramski". References added to the date and time topics must be verifiable. -- Jim Douglas 23:46, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
The reference: A Tale of Love and Darkness, a memoir by Amos Oz Das Baz 23:49, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
The incident should be well-known to the whole world, of whatever language. Das Baz 23:52, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Let me put it like this: The incident is tragic, that's a given. In what way is the death of this particular child notable to history, when compared to the hundreds (thousands?) of children who have died in Arab-Israeli conflicts since 1947? Or the untold thousands of children who have died in any conflicts? -- Jim Douglas 00:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Believe me, if I could, I would write, using my own blood, an article for every child, of all nationalities and religions, who have been killed, either deliberately (as Yoni was) or as "collateral damage." I'll include as many as I can in as many places as possible.Das Baz 00:13, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Perdikkas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. EMT1871 17:28, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Goldstein (Tintin's doppelganger)
Hi Das Baz: Thanks for adding the information about Goldstein (Tintin's doppelganger) which was fascinating to read. [edit] Little context in 656 (number)
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on 656 (number), by Useight, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because 656 (number) is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting 656 (number), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate 656 (number) itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:53, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Alveolar prognathism
I've redirected the article you created, alveolar prognathism, to prognathism, since the only additional information the newer article adds on prognathism is unreferenced. That information is the sentence that asserts "The lack of alveolar prognathism is a distinctive identifying characteristic of Caucasians", and I can find no reliable evidence online to back this. The topic seems to be a source of controversy on Talk:Prognathism, but I'm not a physical anthropologist. If you can find reliable references, please feel free to unredirect. [edit] Actors who have played God in films
A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Actors who have played God in films, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Iddish
A tag has been placed on Iddish, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ChickenLeg 15:36, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ID
I've reverted your repeat entry on ID, since I can find no evidence online supporting the assertion that Id means "Jew" in some dialects of Yiddish (which is called Iddish in the Hebrew language). Could you please cite some sources? Thanks, Clicketyclack 07:12, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Apologies: I've just asked a colleague to ring a Yiddish-speaking uncle, who confirmed that you were quite right. So I've added it as an an interwiki link at the lower left of ID. Thanks, Clicketyclack 15:51, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

An article that you have been involved in editing, Goldstein (Tintin's doppelganger), has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Goldstein (Tintin's doppelganger). Thank you. ==
Hi,
I've set your article about Goldstein, Tintin's double, up for deletion. It was an interesting one and raised the issue, but I do not really think that that he was major enough to have his own article in a way similar to Tintin, Haddock or Calculus. There is also now a more detailed account about him at Tintin's Double.
Any opinions on this?
Cheers, --Marktreut 12:06, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Quadrecentenials
Why quadricentennials in 22nd century? Why not quincentennials in 23rd century, etc? I believe there's a consensus that no anniversary listing should appear in a {{future}} year artical unless there is present planning for memorialization. I'm not sure where the appropriate discussion would be to confirm that, though. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 17:37, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- It's not "artical" but article, and I do not know of any such consensus. Erudil 17:40, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- There's a clear consensus not to include the Titanic centennial. I think the (archived) discussion on that points to a more general consensus to that effect. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 18:33, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
You cannot generalize from the Titanic centennial to all centennials. Erudil 16:05, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your recent contributions to the article on the Yiddish language
The Hebrew language uses the native Yiddish designation for the latter language. It is pronounced both "yidish" and "idish" in the two languages, with the corresponding orthographic distinction (יידיסה and אידיש) both when appearing in Yiddish and Hebrew text. This duality is clearly indicated in the lead sentence in the article on the Yiddish language --Futhark|Talk 18:10, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 20:42, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The original version of Naruto
Please stop creating articles about the original version of Naruto. That test chapter is already mentioned in enough detail in the intro to the main Naruto article; there is no need to create separate articles or sections detailing every little difference it has from the current series. [edit] Editing at the Ludwig von Drake page
Hi, I just read your message but didn't know where to reply to you. (I hope this is the right place.) In reference to this message:
Dear Ethel, I only mention the divorce option because some people talk about either Matilda or Ludwig dying to explain the end of their marriage. Matilda did not die, as shown by the fact she reappeared alive and well in Scotland in 2005. I do not like to think of Ludwig dead either. Das Baz, aka Erudil 20:04, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
I realized I likely overreacted and apologize. I don't like the idea of either Matilda or Ludwig being "dead" either, but the idea of their getting divorced was rather upsetting to me, too. The thing is, as I tried to explain, there was never anything to suggest that such a thing happened. In fact, if you've read my article at the bottom of the talk page, [1] Don Rosa seems to solve the mystery at last. He had actually wanted Ludwig and Matilda to be married; but his editor didn't like Ludwig (in fact, he declared Von Drake "officially dead" ) and utterly forbade Rosa to use the character. This is why Matilda is completely alone and still a McDuck in The Old Castle's Other Secret or A Letter From Home.
The problem was, the comments that Matilda divorced Ludwig because she didn't want to live with a "know it all" seemed to be passing a judgment and presenting a personal opinion as fact, when we are asked to keep these pages neutral. I should have approached the matter with less emotion and more common sense, but I hope you at least understand my position on this. I'll remove the warnings, but please try to keep it neutral, okay? You can always make a seperate page somewhere especially for your views on the "Ludwig and Matilda" thing. EthelG (talk) 01:28, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Greater Berzerkistan
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Greater Berzerkistan, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}}
to the top of Greater Berzerkistan. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 22:38, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hillel and Shammai
Don't take this the wrong way, but do you know how to use references in Wikipedia articles? Basically, all you need to do is enclose the reference in <ref></ref> tags, and then add a <references /> tag at the bottom where you want the notes to appear. You really don't want to leave references inline like that. -LisaLiel (talk) 22:42, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- One other thing. You added two references at the end, and wikilinked the sources. But they aren't in Wikipedia. You add a hyperlink like this: Exodus article (single square brackets, with the text you want appearing one space after the URL). What you did was more like this: Exodus Article. See how it's red, and goes nowhere? Or if it's an actual book or article that's not online, just enclose it in double apostrophies, like this: Exodus Article -LisaLiel (talk) 23:54, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Okay, added a link to the Wikipedia article on the Gulf War. Das Baz, aka Erudil 20:59, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Great. That's what it needed. Boneheads like me would have no idea where to look for more info on the event. Thanks. I'll bring up the topic of whether the event is globally notable another day. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:09, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Arumbaya lingo deciphered
Dear Das Baz, Thank you so much for the extremely helpful comment about the lingo the Arumbaya tribe speaks in The Broken Ear - I thought Tintologists had traced it to "Marols" the Brussels (Flemish) dialect Hergé would have heard from his grandmother, but you're right. I added it to the Dutch site on The Broken Ear - may I ask if there's any written source or did you discover it yourself? Hats off! "I told you to hit the flipping ball into the hole! And that don't mean his flipping earhole!" Quite risqué for the former Boy Scout... Best wishes, Frank Landsman (talk) 13:16, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Dear Frank, Have to confess - I am not sure. I think I figured out when I read aloud what the Arumbaya Chief was saying - and realized he was talking Cockney. But there is a chance my memory was playing tricks on me and I could have read somewhere, and then forgotten I read it, that Cockney in the English translation corresponds to Marols in the French original. Either way, alas, I cannot provide a source. Thank you anyway. And thanks for the laugh! Das Baz, aka Erudil 15:41, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Dear Das Baz, I just received an email from a real Tintologist named Paul Durdin and he confirmed that Tintin's English translators Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper & Michael Turner cleverly substituted Cockney for the Marollien/Marols used in the French original. The only phrase I couldn't figure out was "Cohrluv ahduk!" on p.52 - Cor (as in cor blimey!)love a duck? As the Marx Brothers mused while passing a viaduct, "Yes, why a duck?". Btw, if you're interested in Nathanael West, I'll send you my thesis, lots of stuff on comics and S.J. Perelman as well. Cheers then, Frank Landsman (talk) 17:03, 29 May 2008 (UTC) Hi Das Baz, I left you a note on my talk page -thanks. Frank Landsman (talk) 16:24, 2 June 2008 (UTC) Ok, just mail me at FrankieboyfrankATgmailDOTcom and I'll mail you "Nathanael West's American Nightmare Factory" - thanks for you interest.
