Dasi was an important trading port of Dahan River in the 19th century. When the North-South Railway, which bypasses Tasi, was completed in 1909, the importance of river trade decreased. Dasi is no longer a trading port. On the other hand, the production of wooden furnitures became famous.

Dasi dried tofu (大溪豆干) is a popular Taiwanese cuisine. Dasi is also home to the mausoleums of two famous Republic of China presidents. The late president Chiang Kai-shek is temporarily entombed in nearby Tzuhu. His son Chiang Ching-kuo is entombed at Touliao, a mile down the road.

Dasi is served by National Highway No. 3 and Provincial Highway No. 66
