Dashtestan

Dashtestan is a township in the northern part of Bushehr Province of Iran. It is the largest of Bushehr's nine municipalities, the others are: Bushehr, Dashti, Dayyer, Kangan, Tangestan, Genaveh, Dai Jam and Jam.

It has gone by the name of Shabankareh, and was the ancient city of Eij.

In 2005, archaeologists discovered a fragmentary sculpture featuring the head of Darius the Great (r. 521 BC-485 BC) and a servant carrying an umbrella behind him. It was unearthed at the Persian king's palace, known as Bardak Siah Palace, which was discovered in 1977. An inscription was also recovered, with handwriting in Neo-Babylonian language.

Dashtestan has three historical monuments that attract tourists: Kooshk-E-Ardeshir, Gour-E Dokhtar, and Bardak Siah Palace.

More than 20 palaces and halls from the Achaemenid dynasty have been identified buried under the palm trees of Dashtestan area.
