[edit] License tagging for Image:Bugling-elk-3x3.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bugling-elk-3x3.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:06, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Text additions

Hi...our copyright policies don't allow copy and pastes even if attributed. ...the only exceptions to this is for statements and similar, which must be quoted and directed cited. I am guessing you are the author of the information which is printed on the web, so if you wish to summarize your information using different wording and delivery, and then reference it, that is fine of course...see WP:ATT and WP:C for further clarifications. If you want to be able to do a complete copy and paste of your text you'll need to release the original text to the Public domain on your own website.--MONGO 15:10, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

I reiterate what User:MONGO said. Please help us summarize this information in a way that we don't violate any copyrights (especially yours). Also, please do not post pictures containing a copyright notice (for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Canoers-snake-river.jpg and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Turquoise-Lake.jpg). Even if you have tagged the image pages with an acceptable license, the copyright tag directly on the picture trumps everything else. Thank you. CosmicPenguin (Talk) 15:51, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
