Talk:Darrington, West Yorkshire

Moved from main page, because it's chatty rather than encyclopedic:
"By asking several people in the village I found out that Miss Kitty Featherstone ran it at one time from the hallway in Highfield House, Maureen ran the business from her house ‘Cotswold, then it has been run from Holly Cottage since 1973. So all in all it has moved round quite a bit during its life here in the village - but I have heard that it possibly has also been run from another house as well. There is also a rumour that in the days of stage coach mail there was an armed robbery and one man was shot. Diane Vickers the Rural transfer advisor for the Post Office said that far from being a ‘quaint old fashioned idea’ that Post Offices are situated in peoples houses / garden sheds / village Halls.
It is bang up to date - because that is what is going to happen in the future, as buildings which are dedicated purely as Post Offices, become vacant, they will be closed, and re-opened in the same way as our Post Office is being re-opened - in a community centre. Call me a sad person if you must but I thought that before all these changes take place all over England, I thought I would like to find out as much as I can about Darrington Post Office from 1888 to today, and maybe make up a little booklet, to show how things do go full circle, for every one else to catch up with us! Is there any one who knows any thing at all about the origins and travels of the Post Office - maybe even has a photograph of the person who was the sub-post master / mistress, or any other memorabilia associated with the memories, if so I would love to talk to you about it? Usual number 793268"
