[edit] Abertillery OS Map
My mother spent most of her childhood in Abertillery, South Wales and gave me the name Darren because she found it in a book and liked it. However, there are some geographical features around Abertillery named as darren on the OS map. I therefore think it likely the name has a Welsh origin rather than Gaelic which to me means Irish/Scottish.
