I'm writing to memoralize the fact that I edited Darrell Royal's page to include a few of his "notable quotes." I started out looking for "guy who made the blind hog quote." I had a bit of effort trying to find his name via Google. So when I did, I decided to make things easier for the next person who tried to find the same information.

Incidentally, I live over 1,000 miles away from the University of Texas. I watched the "Game of the Century" (I was 11 years old at the time), but I really didn't know anything about Darrell Royal prior to this Google search.

By the way, I realize that the "blind hog" quote is a variation on a number of similar quotes involving "blind seagulls" and various other species. But I think the quote is worthy of inclusion in Darrell Royal's biography because "luck" seems to be a recurrant theme of his.

For that reason I also included 2 of his other quotes on luck.

[edit] Controversy section deletion

"Tomwithanh (Talk | contribs) (Deleted the controversy section that added nothing to the article; should be expanded if it is to be kept.)"

The controversy section was sourced and did add something to the article. The decision to delete it seems to violate NPOV. 169.199.106.1 02:52, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I agree. I restored the informaiton, however, it is really too short to be its own section, which may be what Tomwithanh was getting at. I added it to the section on UT. Johntex\talk 20:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Forward Pass Quote

The quote concerning the forward pass, although frequently associated with Coach Royal, originated with either Vince Lombardi or Woody Hayes. Coach Royal himself, in an interview with the Columbus Dispatch, attributed it to Woody Hayes (Jones, Todd. "Royal took Longhorns from oblivion to No. 1", Columbus Dispatch, 2006-09-09, p. 07E).
