Darzee
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Darzee is a fictional animal character in Rudyard Kipling's short tale "Rikki Tiki Tavi".
He is a taylorbird, described as a good intentioned but rather dim witted househusband, while his mate is described as much smarter and braver. While Darzee becomes a friend of Rikki Tiki Tavi, his main activity during the story is to sing (mostly, praising Rikki Tiki Tavi because he defeats the bird eating snakes in the garden after they had eaten one of Darzee's chicks). Darzee's wife however plays a more important part when she distracts murderous cobra Nagaina enough to allow Rikki Tiki to destroy the snake's eggs that were about to hatch, threatening the entire human family that lived in the house and also all other animals in the garden.
