Daryl Bamonte

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Daryl Bamonte is well known for working for bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure. He currently manages Christian Eigner & Andrew Phillpott and Paul 'P-Dub' Walton.

[edit] Depeche Mode

He started off, according to the commentary of Depeche Mode 101, setting up and taking down equipment for the band, in their early days. He stayed with them, after they gained success, as the road manager. He is also credited in the film's commentary, as the 5th member of Depeche Mode. He's seen in many parts of the film, including one in which, he sings "I Saw Her Standing There," accompanied by Dave Gahan on the harmonica and Martin Gore in the guitar.

In 1994, when Andrew Fletcher had a nervous breakdown, Daryl replaced him for the second leg of the US Devotional Tour, as well as 6 shows in South America.

Alan Wilder commented on his website when asked about this:

"While everyone else was sunning themselves on the beach and enjoying a well-earned rest, Daryl and I spent a week cooped up in a hotel room in Hawaii where I taught him the entire set. He subsequently played it perfectly for the rest of the tour - pretty good eh, considering he'd hardly ever played a keyboard before in his life." Shunt Q&A

Having been with them since the beginning of their career, he appears in all of the documentaries for the Depeche Mode remastered albums released so far, apart from Ultra and Exciter, as he stopped working with the band in 1995.

[edit] The Cure

In 1995, Daryl left Depeche Mode to work for The Cure, alongside his younger brother, Perry Bamonte who was lead guitarist at the time. Daryl was Executive Producer for the Trilogy DVD and 'The Cure' album alongside Robert Smith.

Robert Smith fired Daryl, along with his brother Perry Bamonte, and Roger O'Donnell in 2005.
