Darwish (name)

Darwish is a widespread family name. It is derived from the Arabic grammatical base for Dervish (for which it is often a variant spelling for the same title).

It is most commonly used as a surname in the Levant or for people descended from Levantine communities, particularly in Lebanon, Syria, Israel and the Palestinian territories. A variant spelling Darweesh is used in Egypt.
