As of 2001 India census[2], Darwha had a population of 23,360. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Darwha has an average literacy rate of 80%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 83% and, female literacy is 76%. In Darwha, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Darwha has historical back ground as Rango Bapuji gupte had Visited Darwha for hiding from ruler that time. It was called Motibag (Garden of Pearl, It is said that there was garden in city with flowers like Pearl ) in British rule. Name "Motibag" is still being printed on ticket of railway (Shakuntala) which is on contract with Indian Railways.
