Darrius Heyward-Bey (born February 26, 1987 in Silver Spring, Maryland) is an American football wide receiver for the Maryland Terrapins. He is widely considered one of the best wide receivers in college football, and is a top prospect for the 2009 NFL Draft.[1]

Heyward-Bey played high school football for McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland. He played wide receiver and linebacker. As a senior he earned first team all-state and was a PrepStar All-American. He also excelled at track and field, as he finished fifth at nationals as a junior as well as being MIAA champ in the 100 and 200 meters.

Coming out of high school he was recruited by Boston College, Alabama, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Michigan State, but ultimately chose Maryland. In 2006, after being redshirted his freshman year in 2005, Heyward-Bey became one of the top young players in the ACC, earning first-team freshman All-America by The Sporting News and Rivals.com. He finished the season leading the Terps in receptions with 45, and set a a school freshman record with 694 receiving yards.[2] In 2007 he made 51 receptions for 786 yards and three touchdowns.

Heyward-Bey is highly regarded as one of the best wide receivers in college football and is expected to be a first round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.[3] He is also considered one of the fastest wide receivers in college after running a 4.23 40 yard dash in 2006.
