'Weasel' began his career at the Norwich City youth academy, but failed to make any first-team appearances. He signed for Yeovil Town, then playing in the Football Conference, on 1 August 2000, playing for them 225 times (with a further eight appearances as a substitute) and scoring 32 goals. In the 2002/03 season, he was a member of the Yeovil squad which won promotion to the Football League. Two seasons later, he collected a further medal as Yeovil won the League Two championship.
On 20 January 2006, Way signed for Swansea City for a fee of £150,000. Since signing for the Swans he has had a series of injuries which had in April 2007 restricted him to just 14 appearances so far. He underwent yet another operation on his shin in January 2007 and will hope this will finally put an end to his injury problems.
On November 15, 2007 Darren returned to Yeovil Town on a short-term loan in order to regain match fitness.
