Darren P Jones (b. 13 November 1986, Bristol) is a British politician. In April 2008, Darren was selected as the Labour Party's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency of Torridge and West Devon, fighting for election to the Parliament of the United Kingdom against the current Conservative MP, Geoffrey Cox.
Darren was born in Bristol where he attended Avon Primary School, Portway Community School and Ashton Park Sixth Form. He is currently a final year undergraduate at the University of Plymouth reading for a BSc (Hons) degree in the Human Biosciences.
Darren has worked in the National Health Service for a number of years specialising in Medical Informatics.
In February 2008, Darren was elected to be the next President and Chair of the Board of Trustees for the University of Plymouth Students' Union (UPSU), where he will also act as a Governor for the University of Plymouth itself [2].
[edit] Work within the Labour Party
Darren has been a member of the Labour Party and the Co-operative Party for a number of years. He formed the first Plymouth Labour Students organisation in 2006 leading campaigns on issues such as 'Free Prescription Charges for Students' and Cohesive Communities.
At the National Council of Labour Students in 2006, Darren was elected as a member of the Labour Students National Policy Forum.
Darren is currently the Youth and Students Officer for the Plymouth Sutton and Devonport CLP and is a Constituency Intern for the Plymouth Sutton MP, Linda Gilroy, where his prime focus is on developing a forum for making a more cohesive community.
Darren stood in the Plymouth ward of St Marys in the 2008 Local Elections where he successfully moved Labour from third to second place.[1]

Darren is currently single and lives within the City of Plymouth. He enjoys music (and is, himself, a saxophonist and Founder of the University of Plymouth Big Band [3]), socialising with his friends and enjoying the beautiful scenery of the South West.
