Darren McKenna (born 28 October 1980 in Celbridge, County Kildare) is an Irish footballer currently playing for Longford Town in the Eircom League of Ireland First Division. Darren is a tall and powerful forward and can be a nightmare for defenders to deal with.
[edit] Career
McKenna began his Eircom League career with Monaghan United and was top scorer for the Mons' during their 2003 campaign. Darren later returned his home county to join Kildare County where he was a regular member of their squad. He was released mid season, however, due to a persistent back injury.
In February 2007, he signed for Shelbourne and he made his league debut for the Reds on March 9, 2007 in a league fixture against former club Kildare County at Tolka Park, where he came on as second half substitute to score a dramatic late equaliser for Shels against his former club in a 2-2 draw. McKenna made a total of 11 competitive appearances for Shelbourne during the 2007 season before he was released in July 2007 by the Tolka Park club. In March 2008, playing in his first league game for Longford Town he scored a hat-trick to see off Sporting Fingal.
