Darren Jolly (born November 6, 1981) is an Australian rules football player for the Sydney Swans in the AFL.
[edit] Early career
Jolly began playing for the North Ballarat Football Club before being drafted by the Melbourne Demons to the AFL in 2004. He began to play for the Sydney Swans as a Ruckman and was the most benched player of that season in 2005. He scored a goal in the first quarter of the 2005 Grand Final. He has in total received 4 Brownlow votes in his entire career. Darren has shared his Number One Ruck Position with Peter "Spida" Everitt in the 2007 Premiership Season while spending some stints up forward.
[edit] Sydney career
The Demons traded Jolly to Sydney in 2004 for a draft pick.
Along with Jason Ball, in 2005 he was an integral part of Sydney's ruck division and after the retirement of Ball, assumed the number one ruck role at Sydney.
In the early hours of 29 September - one day before the Swans played in the 2006 AFL Grand Final, Jolly's wife Deanne gave birth to the couple's first child, Scarlett, which brought relief to coach Paul Roos, as Jolly had said he would not play in the Grand Final if his wife was to give birth on the day of the game.
