[edit] Schools Level
At school level Darren was part of the first soccer team to emerge from Presentation College Glasthule. The team began in 2001 while Darren was in second year and had minor success against local schools in their leagues. The teams greatest success came in 2005, while Darren was in fifth year and being an influential player in the team at the time,They reached the Dublin Schools quarter final and FAI Dublin Schools Cup semi final. However they lost to the same team in both cups in the semi final and quarter finals. This was a notable point in Darren's career as he was sent off in the quarter final loss and then missed the semi final of the FAI Cup.It was hard on him as he had guided them to the semi final and quarter finals.Presentation lost on penalties against Deanswrath of Glasnevin. Unfortunately though for Darren, a lot of his limelight was stole from Jay Ellard, as Jay was consistently Pres' best performer. Much to Darren's anger, he responded saying it's stupid the way Jay gets all the plaudets, I'm tellin' ye if he was white, no one would notice him.
From his performances for the school he went on to represent the Leinster schools team and also the Irish schools team.
