Darne machine gun

- For the Libyan city, see Darnis
Produced from 1922 to 1939, the Darne machine gun (officially known as mitrailleuse Darne mle 1933) equipped French aircraft until 1935 when it was replaced by the MAC 1934, except in naval aircraft. Often criticized for its lack of reliability, the Darne machine gun worked by gas operation and was fed from a 100 or 250 belt. Like other rifle calibers, the 7.5 mm ammunition type proved to be too light for air combat in World War II.
