Darko Dimitrov (Macedonian: Дарко Димитров) (born January 21, 1973 in Skopje, SFR Yugoslavia, present-day Republic of Macedonia) is a Macedonian songwriter, composer and music producer. Despite being highly acclaimed for revitalizing the mainstream pop music scene in the Republic of Macedonia, which also influenced the surrounding Balkan countries, he also received international recognition for working with many popular foreign artists. He was a composer of Ninanajna, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia's [1] (FYR Macedonia)[2] entry in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest.

Darko Dimitrov was born on January 21, 1973 in Skopje, SR Macedonia (present-day Republic of Macedonia), as a son of the prominent Macedonian singer and composer Slave Dimitrov. His family has a rich musical history - his grandfather was the prominent opera and traditional music singer Blagoja Petrov Karagjule. Darko Dimitrov graduated at the Academy of Music in Skopje and he works in his family recording studio called "Studio Dimitrovi" along with his father and his brother Oliver, the latter being notable for producing the debut album of the ska-punk band, Superhiks.

One of his first hits was "Otvori go pendžerčeto" (Open the window), performed by the rap group Nulta Pozitiv in cooperation with the popular folk singer Mitre Mitrevski.

After producing for mostly hip-hop and pop-rap oriented artists during the early 1990s, Darko Dimitrov moved on to work in the pop music industry. From 1996 onwards, he produced several chart-topping hits for the following prominent artists: Karolina Gočeva, Toše Proeski, Kaliopi, Jovan Jovanov, Martin Vučić, Tamara Todevska, Tijana Dapčević, Vlado Janevski, Rade Vrčakovski Vrčak, Maja Grozdanovska Pančeva (Darko Pančev's wife), Gentiana Ismajli, Leonora Jakupi, the Eurovision Song Contest winner Marija Šerifović and many other domestic and foreign pop stars.

In 1999 a various artists compilation CD "100% hits - The Best of Darko Dimitrov" was released, which broke record sales on the official music market.

His songs participated in many notable pop music festivals such as: Skopje fest in Skopje, Makfest in Štip and Ohridski Trubaduri - Ohrid Fest in Ohrid in the Republic of Macedonia; Sunčane skale and Budva music festival in Montenegro; FERAS Radio Festival in Serbia; Pamukkale Festival in Turkey; Golden Stag in Romania; Kënga Magjike in Albania; Euro Video Grand-Prix and the European Song Festival 2006 for children with special needs.

The song "Ninanajna" (Macedonian: "Нинанајна") produced by Darko Dimitrov, was the Macedonian entry in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. The song was performed in both Macedonian and English by Elena Risteska and received 56 points, placing 12th, which is the biggest success for Republic of Macedonia in the Eurovision Song Contest so far.

Darko Dimitrov has won over 30 awards in the best producer, best composer and best arranger categories. He is a co-founder of the "M2" music production company along with Ivo Jankovski, the former manager of the eminent Macedonian groups Leb i Sol, Arhangel and Anastazija.

M2 organized several talent shows, from which the current Macedonian pop stars emerged: Elena Risteska, Lambe Alabakoski, Aleksandra Pileva, 4play, Emil Arsov and Tuna.

As an eminent songwriter, Darko Dimitrov is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia.
