While attending a party thrown by one of their English professors, six college students play around with a Ouija board and contact a spirit that identifies itself only as 'Butler'. The spirit promises them a treasure if they will go to a remote mountain called Calamity Peak. The professor, who knows that messing around with the supernatural can be dangerous, attempts to dissuade them from this and believes that she has succeeded, but the kids secretly snatch the board and set off for the mountain. Once they arrive at the site they are menaced be a machete-wielding madman, and some begin to wonder if Butler might be trying to harm them. After discovering that they have gone to the mountain the professor, along with her lover, sets out to stop them.
