Darklord is a term used in the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game campaign setting Ravenloft, referring to the mystically imprisoned and cursed ruler of a domain in Ravenloft. A Darklord was originally a person (or monster)[vague] who committed a truly horrific crime, which drew the attention of the enigmatic Dark Powers who then proceeded to craft a personal kingdom around the Darklord. This domain is both a kingdom and a prison, for the Darklord gains incredible powers whilst within it but can never leave it. Also, each Darklord is subject to a Tantalusesque curse.
