Darkcore is a harder, more recent and darker sounding version of the electronic music style hardcore. Darkcore music often features hard beats and aggressive vocals.
Darkcore refers to a subgenre within hardcore. The purpose of darkcore is to create a certain mood using minimal means. Darkcore beats are much harder than those heard in techno music and mainly thrive on the dark/mysterious melodies and tunes, which can sound psychedelic at times.
Other terms such as noisecore, doomcore and spookycore pop up now and then. Along with darkcore, these are variants that share only minimal differences. There's no clear boundary separating these different styles. Noisecore contains more squeaking and cracking sounds, and the beat is often supplanted by a distortion effect. Doomcore songs have a very apocalyptic feel to them and spookycore sounds, like the name suggests, scary and spooky.

Darkcore is also the name of a houseparty organized by Art of Dance. Angerfist also has a song by the name of "Darkcore".
