Darius Defoe aka Man-Child (born November 14, 1984 in Dominica, is a British professional basketball player, a graduate of the Hackney Community College Basketball Academy Programme. He currently plays for the Newcastle Eagles in the British Basketball League and has done for the past two seasons.
The 6ft 9in power forward, who is also able to play in the centre, joined Newcastle in 2004 from Hackney White Heat, and has been instrumental in the success of the Eagles over the past few years. In his first season of professional basketball (British Basketball League 2004-05|2004-05), Defoe notched up 40 games, playing 521 minutes while recording averages of 4.80 PPG and 3.33 RPG and also picking up a BBL Trophy winners medal and a Play-off winners medal. In the 2005-06 season Defoe bettered his averages (8.34 PPG and 4.78 RPG) while putting in some impressive performances for the teams phenomenal "clean sweep" successes in the BBL Cup, Trophy, Championship and Play-offs. Darius Defoe is also a winner of Nike Midnight Madness 2006 & 2007 trophy. In the summer of 2007 he played as part of the British team called Midnight Madness which competed and won against an American team in Chicago.
