[edit] Story

The story of Dark Alliance II begins with the three characters from the original game being surrounded and captured by a large group of nightshades and nightwalkers, led by the vampire lord, Mordoc Selanmere. After this scene, players control one of several characters seeking fame, fortune, glory and other goals. The players eventually learn of Mordoc's plot to restore the Onyx Tower, and to prevent it, they have to activate elemental foundations in the planes of fire, water, earth, and air, unknowingly allowing it to appear in the Material Plane. They meet Kharne and he tells them that Mordoc has brought back the Onyx Tower. They travel to the Keep of Pale Night with Jherek and Kharne. Jherek stays behind to defend and disappears. Kharne stays behind and also disappears. They Heroes continue and rescue the Adventurers from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. They meet and defeat Mordoc before he flees to the Onyx Tower He uses the Onyx Tower to transform Baldur's Gate into Mordoc's Gate. The Heroes find the Watch fighting against Mordoc's Undead Army. They fight their way through and meet Randahlla. Randahlla brings the heroes to the Onyx Tower before revealing she has been converted by Xanhastand tries to kill the Heroes. She fails and tells the Heroes to destroy the Onyx Tower. They proceed to enter the Onyx Tower to destroy its core as well as Mordoc. They find Xanhast and defeats him. Entering the Shadow Gate behind him, they enter the Shadow Plane and battle Mordoc. After Mordoc is dead, they destroy the Onyx Heart to free Baldur's Gate from its curse. Upon returning to Baldur's Gate, they find Randahlla alive as she was freed from Xanhast's control when he was killed, and was returned to life when the Onyx Heart was shattered and destroyed.

[edit] Sidequests

Each character has his or her own Act III sidequest that can be unlocked through certain NPCs . These sidequests could only be unlocked if the player gave increasing amounts of gold in exchange for the same number of experience points. The exception to this was Dorn's sidequest, which is unlocked after speaking to a certain NPC (Randahlla) in Act III or Act IV. Completion of a sidequest would give the corresponding character extra feats and abilities.

[edit] Item creation

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II gave players the ability to create custom weapons, armor, rings, and necklaces through the shopkeeper. Players could increase these items by +1 to +5 (or +15 in extreme, but this can only be done with necklaces, rings, and boots.) using runestones, which were needed for all customizations and increased the item's power. A player could also use gems to add special effects to the items. Two different types of gems could be used on one item. There are several different kinds of gemstones and have a different effect on different types of items such as armour/ weapons.
