[edit] About Dafnoula
Dafnoula has a small school, a church, and a small square (plateia). Dafnoula is built on a mountain slope. The mountains surrounding the village are mainly covered with grasslands and a few forests, giving the impression of a rocky landscape. The Alfeios River is located approximately 1 km northeast from the village. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, many of its buildings were rebuilt even though some houses were unaffected in the outskirts of the village. On July 11, 1997 a fire destroyed most of the forests in the southeastern part of Ilia, devastating some square kilometers of forestland. The fire was situated between Matesi and Dafnoula. The fire burnt for about 3 hours and began at 08:00 (UTC)/11:00 (EET). Another forest fire occurred a decade later in 2007. On Sunday August 26, fires spread from nearby Andritsaina and ravaged most of the area leaving some patches of forest unaffected.
