- Hi - Your page automatically has a button for people to add a new message. To reply to an existing thread yolu can click the little "edit" sign by the message name, or use "edit this page" at the top and put your reply in the right place. Normally replies are indented (by using a colon) to help keep the discussion threads in order. Hope that helps !! Pedro | Chat 09:37, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I'd be happy to provide you with a table of a bunch of very helpful links, that you'll find cover all major areas here, to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia. Just reply here if you would like it and I'll drop it in Ariel♥Gold 09:28, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Links
Hi Daoken, here are the links you asked for:
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Here are some pages that will help you to find your way around, understand some of the most relevant policies and guidelines, and develop your editing skills: | ||||||||||||||

A few other useful tips: Please sign your name when you comment on talk pages (not articles) by using four tildes (~~~~), which will show your name and the date. When you edit a page, even minor edits, you should include a descriptive edit summary. If you need help, Drop by the Help Desk or the New Contributors' Help page. Another option is to join the adopt-a-user project. You can also add {{helpme}} to your talk page, followed by your question, or ask me on my talk page and I can try to help, or point you to someone who can. Happy Editing!- Ariel♥Gold 09:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC) |
As for the signature, here are a couple pages to help you make your own:
Hope that helps! Ariel♥Gold 09:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] No problem
Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. There is really a whole lot to know, from the basics that Wikipedia doesn't use normal HTML, it uses a special "Wikicode", to the more advanced policies behind everything that happens. It takes time, but the links cover nearly all aspects of beginning, so I hope you'll find them of use. Ciao! Ariel♥Gold 09:49, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Replied
Replied on my talk page. Also, here is a userbox you may like for your main page. I saw you were homesick, and I have this on my userboxes page, it is cute! Just copy and paste the code. Let me know if you want to put your boxes into a table or something, I'd be happy to do that for your user page. Ariel♥Gold 21:44, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Signature
Dear Daoken, so I took the liberty of creating a custom signature for you, however, not knowing your color styles, I was not sure what colors to use. I have used Midnight Blue, and Jade. The blue section directs to your user page, and the jade section directs to this talk page. Here is what it looks like, followed by instructions on putting it into your preferences:
Daoken
Instructions: Click on "my preferences" at the top of the screen. You will find yourself on your "user profile" page. You will see that the fourth option is "Signature:" with a box next to it for text entry. Underneath that box is a check box titled "Raw signature". Please be sure you put a check in that box.
In the text field following "Signature", place the following code:
[[user:Daoken|'''''<font color="003366">Dao</font>''''']][[User_talk:Daoken|'''''<font color="00A86B">ken</font>''''']]
At the bottom of the page, click "save".
If you'd like different colors, just tell me here what colors you prefer, of if you'd like any characters in the signature, (such as • or ₪ or others), just let me know where you'd like them, such as if you'd like them in front, or bookending, or separating the two colors, etc.
Hope that helps you! Ariel♥Gold 23:41, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Userpage
Dear Daoken, I have created a possible alternative userpage for you. You can find your new design at User:Daoken/sandbox. I have taken the liberty of applying it to your main userpage, but if you do not like it, feel free to remove it.
I also found the following userboxes you may find of use:
If you'd like any of them placed into the page, feel free to drop me a line, or experiment with your new userpage, I've placed code in there that is between <!-- information --> lines, don't remove those lines, they don't show up, they are simply information for you when you're editing. I'll put info regarding placement of userboxes and you can place them as you like, or ask me for help. I hope you like it! Ariel♥Gold 01:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Smile
Ariel has smiled at you! Smiles promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Spread the WikiLove by smiling at someone else, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Happy editing! Just because it is Thursday! Ariel♥Gold 12:45, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Smile at others by adding {{subst:Smile}} to their talk page with a friendly message.
[edit] Banners
Hi Daoken, the banners look okay to me at first glance, however I'd suggest that you ask for input on the main WikiProject talk page, as there may be policies regarding creation of banners that I'm not aware of, and it would be best if you got input from them first. Cheers! Ariel♥Gold 22:03, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Userbox as promised
{{User:UBX/WikiFairy}} Ariel♥Gold 03:17, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Daoken, Userboxes are just that: userboxes. Thus, they nearly always say "this user...". They do not belong on project spaces, (except to show the "this user is a member of this project" box) or in article space, and even if it is on a talk page, that's still a user's page, so it should not matter. There are some guidelines that userboxes must conform to, so I think it would be best to leave it as is, as I know that it conforms to current guidelines.
- As for the banners, I'd agree asking on the Kindness Campaign would be most appropriate, yes. No worries about the email, I just didn't want you to get a bounce message or anything, so I simply let you know that I don't accept files. Not a big deal at all. .
- With regards to your project template/category issues, honestly I have no experience with the issue you're discussing, I'd highly suggest that you go to the main WikiProject page, and ask on the talk page there. As for display issues, I've never even heard of Neoplanet, lol. I'd suggest you ask at the Village Pump. Sorry I can't help you there! Ariel♥Gold 18:11, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Email
Daoken, I received your email, and I appreciate your offer of the .mpg file, but all files are automatically filtered out and removed, as a security precaution. Hope you understand! Thanks, Ariel♥Gold 07:08, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Boxes
You've done a great job with the banner/boxes you've made, and I made my boxes to reflect my own personality, so maybe you would want to create your own, that reflect your own personality? The boxes I created are not very "user-friendly", since I'm the only one who uses them, the various parameters have to be filled in, and they aren't really self-explanatory, so while you could use them, without knowing the parameters, it may end up generating errors, or having strange wording. I admit when I made them, I really didn't think anyone else would want to use them, so I didn't design them in a way that would be easy for someone else to use. I'm a big supporter of "personalization", so I'd encourage you to make your own, that reflect your own personality. Ultimately, it is up to you of course, but that's just my thinking. Ariel♥Gold 20:01, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Edit: I'd just like to gently urge caution when placing any kind of "warning" box on someone's page, (my boxes are considered warnings) Wikipedia has guidelines for how to deal with vandalism, and non-vandalism related disruption. If you're interested in the Recent Changes patrol area, or if you'd like a page to read with information about it, I can recommend one for that. Ariel♥Gold 20:04, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Edit by user: I deleted a short chain of related messaging to this thread, with the agreement and initiative of Ariel, as the wording could cause confusion. It may be found in the talk page history if anyone is really interested Daoken 20:56, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] RE:On the subject of vandalism
Hey. I saw your message to Ariel on the recent changes page, so though I might try to answer your question my self. When ever pages are changed, the copy is saved, so it can be looked at, and reverted to at a later stage. To view these, click 'History' as the top of any article, then click on the time to see that version of the article. Feel free to contact me if you need any help. Tiddly Tom 21:10, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Backup
"Backup" is done automatically, in a sense, in that you can go into a page's history, and restore any version from the past. In the case of repeated, multiple vandalisms to a page, an earlier "good" version can be restored, thus making it easier to "revert" single instances of vandalism. For talk pages, the same applies, but also User:MiszaBot is an "archiving" bot that can archive talk pages for talk pages, three versions that archive three different types of talk pages, including user talk pages. If you take a look at the page, it gives instructions on the use of the Bot. I personally archive my pages manually, but may consider Bot archiving in the future, as manually archiving can be tedious at times. Hope that answers the question! Ariel♥Gold 21:10, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] RE:Thanks for the help
No problem. I am afraid I don't know of any way to do what you ask for, as you go through other tasks on wikipedia, you will come across pages that could do with the help of the WikiProject. If I think of a way of doing it, I will get in touch again :) Tiddly Tom 21:38, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] True Origins Project
I made some changes in the project's page after some good observations from two editors, please let me know if that is OK or not. Jennylen 20:53, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
I also made some changes in the banners and the definition of the project as well as added links in the banners and created a page about reliable sources. Please let me know what you think and feel free to reverse anything you disagree JennyLen 00:39, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mediation
I responded briefly to your thoughts. Thanks for your time. OsteopathicFreak T (usurpation of User:Hopping in progress) 18:40, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm still considering all this. I wondered if you had any additional thoughts. OsteopathicFreak T (usurpation of User:Hopping in progress) 02:44, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Intl Law and Greeting
Hi Daoken, Thanks for your message. I've been using/editing Wikipedia in an on and off manner for some time now but am only now really getting into it. Your message allowed me to find the link to my userpage, which I now created (pretty weak, but whatever). Also this page will probably be helpful to me, as it seems people have been helping you with what I need to know! So great. Anyway just wanted to say thanks. Dmhaglund 09:48, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

- Cool, thanks for the help. Unfortunately (well no: fortunately) I am going on vacation in a few hours and so won't be helping with the intl orgs article. Then again I was only looking it up to find out if the OSCE counts as one (my intl lawyer friend asserts it doesn't, I disagree). Perhaps you know the answer to that? Well anyway thanks again and I'm to Switzerland!

- Hi Daoken - thanks for your very informative answer to my question, as well as the invitation. I suddenly feel like I've jumped into something way over my head here (I just tried to upload a file and got utterly stymied) but am enjoying editing. I will watch what the group does and when I feel more comfortable may join you. Of course, with August coming to an end it looks like I will become more busy with other things, but hell. Best wishes. [edit] Re: G'day
Hi Daoken, I've replied to your query on my talk page. Paul August ☎ 17:52, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Userbox
Howdy Daoken, I've taken the liberty of changing the grammar/wording of the Template:User timetracehelp box. It previously said "this user friendly helps" which is highly confusing, as the term "user friendly" means that an application, or item, is "easy to use", and clearly that wasn't what the box meant to say. I realize you were trying to say that the people who have that box are friendly, but the wording was confusing, so I went ahead and removed the word "friendly", as it was not necessary to let the reader know what project the user is involved in. By clicking the project link, the reader will realize that the people are friendly. Hope you don't mind. Feel free to reply here, as I watch pages I talk to people on for replies. Cheers!Ariel♥Gold 09:21, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Quackwatch
It never pays to quarrel over tagging--better to work on the content. In any case, the article has been worked on by many people, it does not seem to be OWNed by the organization in any obvious way.DGG (talk) 00:12, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Reuqested communication
Hi. I saw you left a message on Doctor of Osteopathic medicine. Was it for myself or Antelan? Also, I looked at the quackwatch article and gave my feedback on the AfD. What did you want to know about the mediation? OsteopathicFreak T (usurpation of User:Hopping in progress) 06:51, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Not giving up, not deleted
I can only speak for myself, but I have not given up on the mediation. It has not been deleted. You can find it here: User talk:Antelan/Ante Oste. OsteopathicFreak T (usurpation of User:Hopping in progress) 13:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks! slicing wikis...
If you have thoughts about slices to make, we're all ears, and making the first biology and animal realted ones now... see [1] for some examples., +sj + 18:54, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] changing language
Ideally, we would indeed simplify the language; we could start creating subpages with the simpler language or subpages of the wikislice space until we can figure out where else to put it. But first, we should define what slices are interesting to make the case that it's worth simplifying.
What do you mean about the slice on international organzations? Liink? To update the use of terms in a slice, you should comment on its index talk page, or talk to the slice's original authors. +sj + 16:55, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Invitation
Thank you for your kind invitation to join WP:TIMETRACE. While I do attempt to address history and chronology in my edits, most of my contributions are currently done through Stubsensor or Unreferenced articles. I find these more general approaches more suited to my editorial style. Thanks again for the invitation :) Jeepday (talk) 12:55, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
