[edit] WIkipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award
Hello, Daniel.Bryant. This is a quick message to remind you that all 5 finalists for the Esperanza User Page Award have been chosen. You now need to judge those 5 pages, awarding each one 1-10 points for attractiveness, usefulness, interesting-ness and general niceness. Refer to the Scores section at the project page if you are unsure of how to score.
Once you have scored the 5 pages, email Shreshth91 using the specified format. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced. Thanks. May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 18:15, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Good Article
Hey! Im glad it made GA status. Considering I nominated it for deletion not very months ago is credit to the hard work that got put in. Next stop FA? --Errant Tmorton166(Talk)(Review me) 08:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves :p I think it still needs a few more touch-ups (like the GA dude [forgot his name, sorry!] listed when adding it to GA) as well as a few more images, and we could be headed for a FA. Daniel.Bryant 08:22, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- Well yes I was being semi Ironical. Sadly I dont think FA status will be as "easy" as GA status. Seeing as it is a vote and that alot of people will, sadly, reject the whole concept! --Errant Tmorton166(Talk)(Review me) 08:28, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

- I must say its great that the article has become a "Good Article". Hopefully this will bring added attention to it, ultimately resulting in improvement. I am currently in the process of preparing for trial HSC exams, so I am unable to focus any attention on it. What I would like to see however is someone take the initiative to draw up a really comprehensive todo list of what needs to be changed on the article. This may need to take place in conjunction with a peer review. Maybe rattle up some critique from the Football Wikiproject? Then, later on when I have the time I will work on it again.

- HSC, unlucky... I'll try and do a to-do list, sometime over the weekend coming - when CCM thump Adelaide :D - and yes, the match was awesome, I saw some highlights plus the news articles (didn't get to go to the match, now that I live in Adelaide...)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:AdamKwasnik.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:AdamKwasnik.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] User page designs
Hi! I saw you on Trading Spaces via Esperanza, and I was wondering if you know how to make a regular rectangular table have curvy corners - like your page! I don't need a complete overhaul though, I'm okay with the current design as it is. =) –- kungming·2 | (Talk·Contact) 02:41, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- You use the Mozilla radians border (ie. it only works for Mozilla browsers, IE it appears square). For example:
<div class="NavFrame" style="border: #0581B5 solid 5px; -moz-border-radius: 10px; background:#CAEBF5"></div>
- ...which produces something like this:
- Note the -moz-border-radius: 10px section - this is what makes it curved. The 10px bit is how curved the corners will be - experiment with different numbers until you get what you're looking for, but most values used for this feature are in the 10-25px grouping. The background, width, colours etc. are exactly the same as every other box function on Wikipedia.

[edit] Newbie
Hi Daniel, I'm very new here, but created a new article. It should have the same name as an existing article, but I didn't know how to do that. "Stephen Morse" already exists. I created "Stephen Morse, 8086 Designer" It should have a disambiguation page and the same title, but I couldn't figure that out. Sliss 08:44, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- I moved the page to this new location, per the manual of style. I also added a link to the top of the original Stephen Morse, per the linked manual I mentioned before. Any more questions, just ask me on my talk page, and I'd be happy to help. I urge you to read those links I posted in the welcome message on your talk page, as it will help you in your future Wikipedia editing. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 08:50, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I saw your name at trading spaces, and wondered if you could take a look at my user page - any suggestions to make it spiffy/better organised/whatever would be very welcome. Aside from that, if you could offer any general advice, particularly regarding the page's failure to render properly in WebKit-based browsers, I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks! - I really can't see anything I can do to improve it - it looks great as it is. However, if you want to steal my awards layout for your "Nice things" section, go right ahead.
-
- Unforunately, I don't know what I can do to improve WebKit-browsing on your userpage - maybe create an alternate userpage (like I did for my IE viewers).
-
-
- Sorry for the slow response, but I haven't been a computer for the last day or so. I'll take a closer look at the format you've used for your awards - it'd probably suit the thin size of the frame just fine. Thanks for taking a look at this. :) RandyWang (chat me up/fix me up) 03:36, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article creation
Hey there! I was just browsing the new pages section when I noticed that a certain user (that owuld be you) had created 10+ articles in the space of 1 minute. How did you do this? Did you use a programme which allows this or did you press the Save button on 10+ pages in 1 minute? - Erebus555 14:16, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm making a very similar article using the same format over and over. Basically, I'm copying this:
' is an Berlin U-Bahn station located on the . BU-BahnStations Berlin-U-Bahn-stub
- ...into a variety of red-links off the BU-BahnStations template, then dragging the name of the station into the bold format "tags". Daniel.Bryant 14:18, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- OK thanks and keep up the good work! - Erebus555 14:21, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pimp my userpage again...
Hi Dan. As you may have noticed, I have decided to come back to Wikipedia in part because of your kind message. You will also notice that my userpage looks utterly terrible. I would appreciate it very much if you could take a look at it and see what you can do to improve it. I really like the design of your page and your main page. My favorite color is green. Please feel free to let me know about any and all comments/questions/concerns that you may have. Thank you and have a nice day.--Chili14 04:17, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

- I tried to update my page to use your layout for my "nice things," but have run into a snag that's been a problem for me since creating my new layout: namely, I haven't a clue how to maintain a minimum of 1em between the infobox on the right, and the other content on the left. Take a look at what I mean, at my sandbox (compared with how it should look). If you have any advice on fixing this, I'd be forever in your debt. [edit] Re: blanking warning
Original message, posted on User talk:Fuhghettaboutit by Daniel.Bryant at 10:03, 23 August 2006 (UTC):
The blank warning you left on the above users' page was done in error. The only two edits this user has ever made to the article you cited as the reason for the warnings are adding helpful links and a minor categorisation fix. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 10:03, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- Actually the user did indeed blank the article, there was no error, see this diff [1]. What happened here was that two articles were existing simultaneously, Luke Glavas and Luka Glavas. Two days after I reverted the blanking, Rossoneri3 redirected the former article to the latter. When you checked the article for the blanking you didn't notice you had been redirected and only saw the history of the other article. By the by, the warning functioned perfectly. The reason for the blanking is now obvious; that user saw the existence of both articles, was likely unaware of redirects, so blanked the article (without an edit summary). The blanking-n template, you'll note, properly predicts that the reason for blanking may be because an article exists under a better name and gives instructions on redirects. Lo and behold, the user then took the proper action of making a redirect. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit 12:27, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- A note for the future: don't use harshly-worded templates when somebody is obviously acting in good faith. However, I accept your reasoning. By the way, did that template mention anything about redirecting as a reason for blanking? I didn't see it. Maybe we're misunderstanding each other. Anyways, sorry for the confusion. Daniel.Bryant 12:54, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
- Oh, I see why you said that. You're right that blanking would have been harsh, but it was blanking-n. My correction of which template was used and your prescriptive note were almost simultaneous. In any case, I'm glad you "accept" my explanation. By the way, please do not remove posts from my talk page.--Fuhghettaboutit 16:05, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

- I feel that, at least, the section should link to herem, as the discussion was finished here. Also, please do not edit peoples' userpages with messages per WP:UP, as you did here. I have linked the rest of the discussion to this version, in accordance with the general rule-of-thumb that leaving a half-finished copy of the same conversation which appears on another, linkable page should be referred (and therefore) linked to the conversation in its' entirety. I will post this, then get the version where this appears on the main talk page, post the link on your talk page, then archive it, as this issue has been dealt with. Good day to you. [edit] Wow, after 4500 edits, you would never believe I would need to use helpme, but...
OK, I'm stumped. I read WP:PURGE, and yet, for some reason, I fail to understand it (don't look at me like that, I'm only mildly stupid :P ...) - if you see the atempted purge link on User:Daniel.Bryant, I have stuffed it up. I was wondering if anyone would care to fix it, or explain how I could fix it (does it require a template to be used for the to-be-purged content? etc.). If you could, I would be extremely greatful. Here's a little tip. If you are on the /wiki/ url and you want to add action=edit, &action=edit is invalid because you haven't started the query string (as opposed to /w/ where the start of the string is at the ?title=). So instead of &action, just use ?action.
For example:
- http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bob&action=edit - valid
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bob?action=edit - valid
- http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php&title=Bob&action=edit - invalid
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bob&action=edit - invalid
("invalid" meaning it won't do what you expect)
notice in examples 3 and 4 there is no question mark to start the query string? That was the problem. Not that you had to go to /w/ but there was no ?. This is a good tip for future reference.
or you can just as easily use:

and let the mediawiki software take care of that.

- Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed response - it's much appreciated. Daniel.Bryant 08:15, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A-League Player Profile Photos
Am I able to upload all of the photos of A-League players from their club websites. Could you please let me know if I am able to do this without causing any copyright issues. I noticed that you obtained permission to use the Central Coast Mariners profile photos. Let me know if I can add the pictures from the other 7 clubs as soon as possible. Thanks. Rossoneri3 10:24, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think you will have to email each club individually. Feel free to use a link to the email between Ben Coonan and myself to help obtain the images from the other 7 clubs. If you get permission, I'll upload them, because I am in the process of getting a bot created by a friend on IRC who will make the job so, so easy. So, I think you will need to email each individual club. I will do it if you prefer - PR is one of my specialities. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 11:01, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
