[edit] Merge syntax

Hi Daniel, I do a lot of work fixing up templates, in particular people often do strange things with the merge template date, as you did on Sith (engine). It would be useful to know where they get the wrong guidance to do this, if you can remember, so that I can fix it. Mayny thanks. Rich Farmbrough, 12:03 12 May 2008 (GMT).

Well, I got it from Wikipedia:Merging_and_moving_pages: There is says: ({mergefrom|SOURCEPAGE|Talk:DESTINATIONPAGE#Merger proposal|date=May 2008}} (Bracket-multilation mine). I substituted "DATE" with the date as layout-ed in release_date. See, the thing is: It's not clear on that page what subst:DATE actually needs to be. Also, why the inconsistency between release_date and 'normal' DATE? It's just all so needlessly confusing, especially for a 'new guy' like me. That, and there's not enough examples on that page. There's an example for 'merger proposal discussion', but nothing else. So my advice: keep/get things consistent, and add more examples to those pages. That should help a lot. --DanielPharos (talk) 12:16, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
