[edit] "Non-commercial"

Hi Dana

Wikipedia cannot accept material that is "non-commercial" or "only for use on Wikipedia". Wikipedia content is syndicated around the world on the internet and in print, frequently for commercial purposes. Non-commercial or Wikipedia content is therefore useless to us.

Hope this helps. RΞDVΞRSЯΞVΞЯSΞ 08:53, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, that's right. If you release something on Wikipedia, the thing that you release must
  1. Be able to be used by other people and companies, not just by Wikipedia
  2. Be able to be used in commercial settings (where people can make a profit from using the item)
That doesn't take away copyright on the item - that can't be taken away - but it does require people who post stuff here agree to free use of their copyright material.
Unless the item you want to upload to Wikipedia is both free to be reused by others and free to be commercially used by others, then you can't post it here.
Sorry if this sounds complicated - for most of us this is easy as we don't like copyrights here at Wikipedia so people like to agree to give them away on anything and everything we make. RΞDVΞRSЯΞVΞЯSΞ 11:22, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
