I'm from Houston, Texas, USA. I've got a degree in applied physics from Caltech and a degree in theoretical and applied mechanics from Cornell University. I'm also interested in linguistics and geology, among other things.
I'm very spotty in the attention I pay to Wikipedia, so I may make several contributions for some time and then disappear for a while.
I recently read an Economist article about deletion vs. inclusion on Wikipedia. Having experienced speedy deletion while in the process of creating two new entries about Howard Emmons (father of fire science) and Richard Kronauer (pioneer in research on circadian rhythms), I'm strongly turned off by the people in favor of deletion. Not necessarily the idea of editing and notability criteria, but the insane way it's enforced: by killing an article before the creator has time to fill in details and references. At the very least, an article should be allowed one month before being killed.
