[edit] My principles and philosophies

• I am a 'small-l' liberal, however do believe in collectivism in where the power of the individual must join in order to balance against the power of another (eg big business)
• Believe in the separation of church and state
• From a strong union family. Strong believer in trade unions and worker rights. Do not like scabs (and yes I do realise some contradiction with being 'small-l' liberal)
• Republican and despise monarchies
• Strong believer in the right to die with dignity
• Whilst not personally believing in abortion I believe all women have a right to choose

[edit] My thoughts

• The Howard Government is evil. It lies (GST, children overboard affair, Iraq war) and repeatedly goes on about "workplace reform" yet does nothing about tax reform to chase tax cheats using family trusts etc.
• Workchoices is bad law. It restricts unions (who are collectives of workers) to do anything and fines them for putting in clauses into collective agreements the Howard Government does not like. It will not increase productivity. It will simply drive wages down in some industries, increasing the gap between rich and poor. Look forward to a working poor in Australia.
• The natural environment must be protected. Australia and the United States are the only two western countries left to not sign the Kyoto Protocol.
• Terrorists are largely a creation by the media and conservative forces around the globe. Yes, they do exist but the numbers they kill are pale in comparison to the numbers killed by the Americans in Iraq. For its high and mighty stance on freedom it is ironic that the US Government illegally occupies Cuba (Guantanamo Bay) to hold supposed terrorists with no trial. If held on real US soil these men would be free.
