Name: Daniel Butcher
Born: 1972 in Devon, UK. At the age of 2 moved to Bognor Regis where I spent most of my formative years. During my adolescence I let my hair hang long and studied electric guitar with a special focus on Jimi Hendrix. My educational interest was science based, in particular, the Life sciences. This naturally progressed to taking up a Bachelor in Ecology at King's College London in 1991. At college I followed interests in photography, visited my room-mate in Pantheon, Paris, and met some great people from Bolton to Boston. Other points of interest were a spontaneous camper trip overnight to Wiltshire and Stonehenge, Glastonbury festival 1992, and a euro trip in the camper that same year.
After graduation in 1994 (Ecology) I briefly began a Doctorate for University of Sussex, but rapidly abandoned this due to financial pressures. It was at this time that I began dating Cassy and in 96 we moved in together. After the failed Doctorate era I entered a wilderness period career-wise which was relieved in 1999 when I began my I.T. career for British Airways. With BA I was fortunate in April 2000 to travel to Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Ko Phi Phi. In July that year I flew to San Francisco on a work trip. In December we visited (Cassy and I) Marrakech. The next year I flew to Boulder, Colorado. Other places of interest, outside of work, include New York, Barcelona, and Lisbon (where I got engaged).
In 2001 I got married to Cassy in Slindon, West Sussex. After a honeymoon in Turkey and a weekend in Rome that October we decided to move on. from Bognor Regis as the commute was getting too tough. By May the next year we had moved to a one bed flat in Twickenham, but moved out to Farncombe after 7 months in time for our twins Lorenzo and Luisa to be born in December that year. New Year's Eve was spent in the Royal Surrey looking out at the fireworks over Guildford. Life ticked on for a couple of years until I moved on to Telewest in Woking.
By the autumn of 2004 we hatched the 2 year Australia plan and applied for our temporary visa over Christmas. On May 9 2005 we left Heathrow heading for Singapore and eventually Melbourne. We lived in the leafy victorian suburb of Albert Park, Victoria home of the Australian Grand Prix and focus of the Commonwealth Games in 2006. We were granted permanent residency of Australia in 2006. By the time we had left Melbourne in early 2007, our kids had doubled in age from 2 to 4 years, and had no memories of the UK.
Since returning to the UK I regularly take part in 10k running races and have competed in various 10k races during the summer 2007. I live in Milford, Surrey near Godalming and I am working for Virgin Media in Woking.
