Katie Marie Proffitt ARAD,BPSA (New Zealand Dancer)

Katie Proffitt is a versatile dancer and choreographer in her own right.

Katie was was born in New Plymouth, North Island in 1982. In 1992 she began her dance career when she joined Claire Patten Academy of Dance. During the holidays Katie travelled to Wellington where she was coached at seminars at the New Zealand School of Dance.

In 1996 she entered several major dance competitions and was placed first. The Jean White Memorial Scholarship; Taranaki Ballet Scholarship; Hawera Ballet Scholarship;Whanganui Ballet Scholarship; New Zealand National Ballet Award 1996.

At the age of 15 she moved to Melbourne to study at the Christine Walsh Dance Centre and she graduated with a Diploma in Classical Ballet. Katie was a recipient of the Kathleen Gorham Ballet Scholarship in 1997 under the coaching of Martin Rubinstein a principal dancer of the Australian Ballet.

After this she auditioned and attended the Australian Ballet School where she graduated in 1999. Katie returned to New Zealand where her family now live in Auckland and in 2003 she enrolled at New Zealand UNITEC where she completed and obtained a degree in Performance and Screen Arts in 2006.

Katie is a choreographer in her own right and has been invited to adjudicate major dance competitions around New Zealand.
