I created this account in response to a series of e-mails I received from a visitor to my promotional site. The e-mails were in reference to the Final Fantasy 9 book I "wrote" seven+ years ago. The person was mad that the book was full of links to a web site that no longer exists. I wrote back agreeing that the book should either no longer be published, or should be reprinted with the full content as I originally wrote it. (This is my publisher's bad judgement, not mine own.) However, the person replied again with further hate and threats. It was easy enough to delete his messages and block him. A few weeks later, he wrote me from a different e-mail that he created an article here to "warn the public about me". I created this account in order to curtail defamatory content created about me at this web site, and to demand that the libelous article about me be deleted. I succeeded in getting the article deleted, and I would appreciate it if no article about me is ever started here again. I would also petition that the user "midgarrocks" be banned from further use of this site. But of course, no one is accountable for anything published here and such a petition would be useless.
I don't like Wikipedia and what it stands for. Regarding encyclopedias, I believe:
- Encyclopedias by nature should provide only a generalized summation of a topic or individual's achievements, and provide a gateway to further research.
- Any encyclopedic source should be created by professional journalists and researchers. The very idea of a user created encyclopedia is nothing more than a backdoor to misinformation, defamation and libel. I'm surprised this site is not sued into nonexistence, especially when I open a page on legendary Jane Austen and find the header reads "Man, her books suck!"
- Copyrighted materials such as books, films and games should not be summarized in detailed fashion. This is a violation of the copyright that protects the work. Even professional reviewers know not to detail the ending of copyrighted works, even if they do not like said ending. Yet this is common practice here.
Regarding the use of Wikipedia and the kind of shenanigans going on here:
- Increase instances of student assignments copied verbatim from Wikipedia. Perhaps the purpose of this site is to provide a universal crib sheet?
- Plagiarism from true online encyclopedias such as britannica.com.
- Anyone is allowed to write whatever they would like here about any person or company, no matter how innaccurate or libelous. Yet when the person or company that the article is about attempts to change the article, they are identified via IP and publicly humiliated via the press: [1] and [2] The attitude promoted here is that "we can say whatever we want about you, and you can't defend yourself". Unabashed harrasement and defamation are promoted here.
So as you might gather, I never again want to be a topic of discussion on this open webpage. "Close Wikipedia!"
