Can someone offer a good reason for using this template? What does it do that the Ships project template doesn't? And if there is also a separate template for the main article then why have one on the talk page as well? --Brad (talk) 21:54, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

{{DANFS}} used to put Cat:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships onto articles, but it is considered bad form to put categories intended to help editors onto articles which are primarily read by people who couldn't care less. There was a deletion discussion about it. The result of the discussion was that this template was created. It carries the above category, and it is placed on the talk pages of articles that use DANFS, so that the cat stays off of articles themselves. TomTheHand (talk) 22:27, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
It adds the page to Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships the only way this is currently added is either manually as we would add other categories to articles, or via this template, which is easier. -MBK004 22:29, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
K then. I'll add it to my arsenal of tags. I was asking mostly because some talk pages are so full of tags it can be confusing. --Brad (talk) 04:20, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
