Talk:Daniel Alfredsson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Strange...This article says Daniel was drafted 168th overall. But other web sources say he was drafted 133 overall. I will change this. Masterhatch 31 July 2005
Swedish Canadian? Is that acurate? I didn't know he got a Canadian citizenship. -- Earl Andrew - talk 21:09, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
"He missed the start of the 2002-03 season when he held out for more money, but returned on a brief two year contract. In 2004 he was signed for five year thirty-five million dollar deal that would see him play with the Senators for the rest of his career."
He hasn't died or retired, so why would that see him play with the Senators for the rest of his career? That last part should be modified, unless someone can give a reason not to.AWDracer 9:11, 01 February 2006 (PST)
I assume that the sentence is based on the fact that he'll be 37 when his 5 years are over, and a as forward he's not likely to go on to some other NHL club.
Compromise, I changed 'should' to 'is likely to'. Hdw 21:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
i object to the line "alfredsson is known for his grit and leadership abilities". the lack of grit on the sens was a huge problem for many years, and was usually cited as one of the reasons that the sens have struggled in the post-season. ditto for leadership - alfredsson has been notoriously bad in the post-season and his leadership has been called into question basically every year since he's been captain. if this is supposed to be an 'encyclopaedic' entry, that line should be removed. Oct 30/06 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dannyd1976 (talk • contribs) .
- If you feel that line should be removed, then remove it. If you feel that it is plausable, but want a reliable source to justify it, add a {{fact}} tag to the end of the statement. Vandalizing the article is not going to be tolerated, however. Resolute 15:36, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
2004-05 was the lockout year. He played with his old club, Frölunda HC. Special J 14:50, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
I think that Alfredsson's residence should be changed from Kanata to Ottawa seeing as Kanata was amalgamated into Ottawa in 2001. Sensfan07
- That doesn't change the fact that he lives in Kanata. I mean, Kanata is still called Kanata even though it happens to be in the City of Ottawa. Im sure his postal address is still Kanata. -- Earl Andrew - talk 02:04, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Obviously a Leafs fan..
The author of this biased article should remove "one of the most hated players in the NHL" which is completely untrue. From a Toronto Maple Leafs perspective, yes he is hated - but no other fans show any animosity towards him.
Hear, hear. I hate him, but I am from Toronto and a Leafs fan and when I speak to other people they love him.
Very true. I'm an Avalanche fan, and I love the guy. Classy players are hard to come by. But hell, I see him once a season if I'm lucky. Jmlk17 03:13, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
After the puck shooting incident, I'm sure many more fans will show animosity towards him.
Too right, i was shocked, he took a clear-as-day look and shot it right at the other player. has he been punished for it as of yet?
[edit] Sweden
I think I read something on the project ice hockey page aqbout someone who changed provinces and such on players. IMO it shouldn't say that he is born in Gothenburg, Västra Götalands län it should say Gothenburg, Sweden. --Krm500 15:36, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 2006 Olympics
"2006 Winter Olympics (gold medal) and was the assistant captain due to the loss of Peter Forsberg because of an injury."
Erh? What is the connection between Forsberg's injury and Alfie's 'A'? Does anyone have any source for that statement? As far as I know Alfie normally wears an A when on Tre Kronor (as do Lidström, while Sundin wears the C). Hdw 20:19, 22 March 2007 (UTC) in 2007 he is the hero.
[edit] My edit on 23 May
I've hacked the article down a bit, removing some crystal-ballish and other speculative stuff (some of which has been mentioned above). The edit is here - [1]. I've also commented out some attempts at critical analysis. Please feel free to restore anything that you a) think improves the article and b) can source. -- Jonel | Speak 02:24, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Votes = Nominations
Wafulz, you removed NHL award votes saying they "aren't even nominations". Fair enough, but there are no nominations for the NHL awards. It is based off voting and the top three vote-getters are shown as the "nominees", however the order is decided by the inital votes themselves. Because of this, a 1st place vote is as much as nomination as a 3rd or 17th place vote.
I think these kind of votes are very intriguing and display the recognition being shown around the league for players' achievements, even if they don't win the award itself. Perhaps you can suggest a better title than "nominations" if you still find the classification unfit. Mozzamorrissey 08:46, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, wrong. Players are nominated for all major awards: [2]. I agree with Wafulz, wherever a player finishes in the nomination process is not all that relevant. I would vote against including such trivia. Resolute 14:41, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Those are not nominations. As I explained above, the top three vote-getters are listed as "nominees" for the sake of simplicity and intrigue, but they aren't. They are the top three vote-getters (four in the case of the Vezina this year, where Lundqvist and Kiprusoff tied for the third most votes). The winner is decided the moment the initial votes are tallied. Crosby was the Hart winner in April when the initial votes were cast, as he had the most votes. Brodeur and Luongo were listed as "nominees" but they were the runners-up in voting right from the start.
-
- If you guys feel listing votes below 4th or 5th place is useless, fair enough, but don't be confused in to thinking a 3rd place vote is a "nomination" any more so than a 15th place vote is. 72.139.49.217 18:05, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Removed the line about being the 'best captain in the NHL' bit with Chris Neil and Bruce Garrioch. This point is purely opinion and has no purpose being in an encyclopedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.43.130.84 (talk) 14:35, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nicknames
This is a bit of a nag to be honest, absolutely nothing important, but I'm putting it here anyway - I've added "Alfredswede" as a nickname. As an Ottawa resident myself (Although a Sabres fan, mind you), I can confirm that he is called "Alfredswede" on a regular basis. AlexRochon (talk) 01:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- The consensus reached at WP:HOCKEY is to be very restrictive with nicknames in articles, only using genuine and established ones such as "the Russian Rocket", "the Finnish Flash", "the Great One", etc. Short versions should not be allowed, such as Mike, Bob, etc. I have never heard that nickname you mentioned, and Google show 1 result for the nickname, and that is your edit. Unfortunately that's not enough. --Krm500 (talk) 01:43, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, well then, my bad. It is probably wise to leave it that way actually. Carry on, then. AlexRochon (talk) 04:03, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Neutrality
This article seems very pro-Alfredsson. I'll get around to fixing it after my exams if no one does it first Schmloof (talk) 16:31, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- What do you dispute? Is he not one of the league's better players? He was not a 'good find' by the Senators? Your editing will be checked for its negativity, if that will be the case. Alaney2k (talk) 16:58, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Great leader?
Because some guy says in a newspaper article that Alfredsson can be compared to Steve Yzerman, that doesn't mean he has comparable leadership abilities. I've heard far more people critcize him for his lack of leadership. I'm taking out that line in the introduction, it's not factual by any stretch of the imagination.

- You should just agree to disagree. It's cited, Scanlan is a reputable writer. And it doesn't say he is a great leader. Read the sentence. Alaney2k (talk) 17:51, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
