[edit] False accusations of vandalism
In the first paragraph of this page there a list of parodies made of the Dancing Banana emoticon, including onions, apples etc. One parody of this that I have encountered is one in which the banana was made into a penis. Case in point:
http://sternplanet.com/boards/images/smilies/dancingpenis.gif
I've been trying to add the word "penis", nothing else to this list of parodies, and every time it has been deleted and I have been accused to vandalism for editing obscenities into Wikipedia articles. I've tried to revert it, but it still keeps getting deleted.
An explanation would be nice.
Edit: I will add one last time, as there is no reason for it to be deleted. Just as an experiment, to see it will be fascistically deleted once more.

what is an "FC Poster"?whats up banana...............
How is it the case that users were using it in late 2001 but it was only created in 2002? Anber 07:20, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
TIME PARADOX!!!!!!!111
Apparently considerable thought and energy have gone into this. --Wetman 01:48, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
I have way too much free time for stuff like this. I'd love to know who first created the image. --uberzev
Yes, out of whose mind spawned this banana? --cactuar12 17:41, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
no consensus on the vfd vote per Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Dancing_Banana. --Woohookitty 04:24, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
If someone wants to add the link to "news alert banana", the banana I created that's mentioned in this entry, here's the link. I'm pleased that he has found a place in terror alert banana lore. Rcade 16:39, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Ridiculous vandalism
"In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for the PlayStation 2 and Wii, switching from the character Super Sayian 3 Gotenks to any other character while in battle often makes him say "Peanut Butter Jelly Time!" before flying offscreen."
Um... No. Can this be deleted? It's not even remotely true. Written by someone who obviously thinks they are funny.
[edit] Origin
I believe the dancing banana may have originated in an emoticon set for a set of web forums -- the original authors of which may provide leads as to the original artist.

I always wondered where the dancing banana came from as it is a very popular emoticon on many forums. The article does not give much useful information, but the gif artist would be more than enough to ensure the status of this article. We need a really good researcher on the case!! --blueaster
Well, it reminds me of the Bitter Film Rejected, dunno which came first though
- I believe that the you are right and that it was for a web forum. At least they were used heavily in forums, usually with the keyword "". 2001 example: [1]. As to who exactly created it, I still do not know. (Also if it matters, the "Banana" flash was made in early in 2002.)
A friend of mine told me that a guy named "Kevin Bri... something" made it but he's not really reliable so I dont know... -King SweaterHead 04:10, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
As I had originally placed in the article, Candice Martel is said to have created the dancing banana, and has even admitted it herself. I'll see if I can get her to post here about it. I think it would be important to put her name back into the article, or to have discussed it before removing it. -standardissue —Preceding unsigned comment added by Standardissue (talk • contribs) 07:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Looking at the page's history, I found the info got lost after a series of vandalic edits in late May / early June 2007. It all started when on May 29th a fake user Blaxpax (with only two edits ever to Wikipedia) replaced "Candice Martel" with "Joyce Lehten". The next day, another unconstructive editor by the nickname Humanvegetable (same vandal under a different name?) replaced "Joyce Lehten" with "Chuck Norris". Finally, it seems user Sefog mistook the piece of info regarding the authorship of the emoticon as simple vandalism, since what he could see at that time in the article was the stupid phrase "created by Chuck Norris" which was the product of those vandals, and simply deleted it wholesale, instead of looking at the page history to find the previous version before it was vandalized. 213.37.6.23 (talk) 19:04, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Meaning
So the central question remains unanswered: what does it mean? What does this emoticon *emote*? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 198.203.175.175 (talk • contribs) 21:20, 21 June 2006 (UTC).
- Quite. This page doesn't help me with my original reason for coming here, namely why the hell would I want a dancing banana on my forum posts? SaintedLegion 23:14, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

- I've always seen it as a direct reference to "Peanut Butter Jelly Time", one of those songs that gets stuck in your head and you want it to go away. As such, I would imagine that as an emoticon it indicates deliberately trying to annoy someone. On the other hand, it was probably first used primarily as simply the obvious... dancing glee. I don't know this for a fact though, just guessing.
- As per the icon's penetration into pop culture, I'd like to mention that it was used directly in that context in a "Family Guy" episode, where the dog dresses up as the bannana, dances, and sings the song. 204.78.11.41 19:57, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
"this emoticon *emotes*" the pleasure of food related comedy. It symbolizes comedy.
Or maybe a monkey made it I dont really know but the point is it is used to bring joy to the world. -King SweaterHead 04:13, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Uh? Are you serious? I think it's clear it's used to express joy, happiness, mirth, celebration... you name it. BTW, I first met the dancing banana through its ubiquitous use on internet forums (just like that green smiley with a distorted face, called  at least in some forums, which must be as famous as this banana), far earlier than I knew about that Peanut Butter Jelly Time thing (I actually learnt about the flash video from this Wikipedia article), so to me the banana does not reference that silly flash animation and music, but viceversa, the animation references the famous smiley. 213.37.6.65 03:07, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

is this true
Not even close. It's a lie. I seriously wonder why it's still on the page. It's clear vandalism.
[edit] Is this notable?
I don't see how it is, and would like if anyone could share a good reason for it to be a Wikipedia article. Thunk 00:34, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- It is notable enough to be parodied on Family Guy. Idioma 03:20, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

- Well, I've always wondered myself where the dancing banana emoticon and its variations originated from, and now I know. Thanks to Wikipedia. ;) 85.19.140.9 14:48, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Guild Wars
In the MMORPG Guild Wars, there were "Xunlai-Agents" that looked like "Roller Beetles" that gave special drinks to certain players. If you use these, your character is transformed into such a Beetle. And if it dances, it resembles the Dancing Banana ( http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Dance ) maybe this could be also mentioned here? 87.177.241.34 11:35, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] YTMND
To reference and describe a single YTMND in the popular culture section seems fairly irrelevant and smells of self promotion. Either the reference should describe a large number of YTMNDs without detail or should ignore the site completely. BENTON 15:09, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
The fact that you only know about the YTMND and know nothing of the PBJT Flash animations or the Family Guy parody is disturbing. Remember, just because YOU don't see how it's notable doesn't make it non-notable. 76.182.119.73 (talk) 04:03, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Alternate (Original) Meaning
Long before the it was an "internet phenomenon", this term was a fairly common euphemism for a vibrator. As I recall, Spencer's Gifts (that store in the mall with all the weird joke/'novelty' stuff) even sold a battery-powered yellow dildo called a "Dancing Banana" in the late 1980's. -Grammaticus Repairo (talk) 19:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Peanut Butter Jelly Time?
So, what does this have to do with Peanut Butter Jelly Time? It's never explained in the entry? --70.167.58.6 (talk) 01:25, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
