Danzas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Danzas was a freight forwarding company. It was founded in 1815 and is based in Basel, Switzerland. It was acquired by Deutsche Post World Net in 2000, who have integrated it with DHL, first as "DHL Danzas/AEI Air and Ocean" and now as "DHL Global Forwarding".

Louis Danzas fought at Waterloo for Napoleon. After that battle, he joined a transport company owned by Michel l'Eveque and by 1840 became joint owner. The company, Danzas and l'Eveque, obtained a mail delivery franchise from le Havre to New York in 1846. A Basel branch was opened in 1854.

The company began to use air transport in 1920 between France and England, and opened its own freight terminal in Paris in 1962.

At the time of integration with DHL, Danzas was the world leader in air freight and ranked second in ocean freight. Overland transport and supply chain management completed the Danzas service portfolio.
