Danny Weidler is an Australian journalist and sports reporter. He appears on camera for the Nine Network delivering sports news and he does pieces for Nine's Footy Show (rugby league football). He has previously worked for the Sun-Herald newspaper.
In 2006, Weidler won a Walkley Award in Sport News Reporting for a piece on National Nine News entitled, "Russell's Rabbits".[1]
On June 22 2007, Penrith Panthers half-back Craig Gower claimed Weidler was a "fucking dribbler" after Weidler claimed to have the inside scoop about a possible move to England for Gower. This was later seen false as Gower did move, but in fact to a French Rugby Union team.[2]
Weidler is often amid controversy in media (not owned by PBL) for his frequent incorrect news stories. He is also known for his defamatory stories towards the Canberra Raiders, Canterbury Bulldogs (especially Steve Folkes), and Penrith Panthers (in particular the former Craig Gower). These are often reviewed as being not objective, with positive bias slayed onto the Sydney Roosters (partly run by the Channel Nine Board), Wests Tigers, and Melbourne Storm.[citation needed]
