Daniel Ernest Tanner (born December 11, 1957) is a character on the TV series Full House, played by Bob Saget.

[edit] Biography

Originally the character was supposed to be named "Reid Westfall" but instead - Danny is the widowed father of D.J., Stephanie, and Michelle. He is left to take care of his three daughters after his wife Pam's tragic death at the hands of a drunk driver. The typically very conservatively dressed Danny seems out of place in San Francisco. In the show, it's suspected that he moved there after his parents divorced. In the episode Terror in Tanner Town, he mentions living through the divorce of his parents when he was about Rusty's age, the mischievous son of a woman (Cindy) he once liked.

Danny has several girlfriends on the show, the closest being Vicky Larson, whom he meets while she is filling in for Rebecca Donaldson on the talk show that Danny and Rebecca co-hosted, Wake Up, San Francisco. This happens when Rebecca is out on maternity leave. When Rebecca returns, Vicky takes a job in Chicago, and as a result, a long-distance relationship between Vicky and Danny begins. Eventually, Vicky and Danny get engaged after Danny proposes to her during the fireworks display during the family's trip to Walt Disney World. However, before they have a chance to get married, they break up in the middle of Season 7 (The Perfect Couple) after Vicky takes her "dream job" in New York. This is the last time that anything is heard about Vicky, aside from Danny's depression in the next episode.

Danny also has one sister, Wendy Tanner, who briefly dated Joey for two episodes in Season 5.

Throughout the entire series, Danny is continuously obsessed with two things: cleanliness and hugs. He is said to be a "Lean, Mean, Cleaning (sometimes "Hugging") Machine". While he mentions a love of cleaning, which exists from when he was a child because he wanted to be like his mother, played by (Doris Roberts as Claire Tanner), he is much more obsessed with it in later episodes than he likely ever was before Pam's death. He is even shown using a mini-vacuum on his larger one, and scrubbing his cleaning products. Likewise, he was reluctant to discipline Michelle.

In the episode, The Perfect Couple, Danny reveals on a game show that his worst nightmare is being in a crowded health spa, and standing naked on a Stair-Master while eating a cheese log.

Danny owns a red convertible that he calls Bullet. Bullet was a gift from Pam to Danny on his 20th birthday. When Jesse accidentally drove the car into San Francisco Bay on Danny's 30th birthday, it is replaced by a car (which he named Walter) that looks identical to his previous car. Despite this, he is seen driving a Ford Taurus in many episodes. Danny is also the only character of the original six to never have an actual catchphrase throughout the series, though in the first episode, he says the phrase "super great" several times.

Danny Tanner was an accomplished guitarist. He was known for his 30 minute renditions of "the horn went beep beep beep", "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore", and the ever popular "All Around the Mulberry Bush - subtitle; what in the world is a mulberry bush?!" He is sponsored by Gibson guitars ....that so called "musician" Uncle Jesse could only land B.C Rich.
