Danny O'Keefe

Danny O'Keefe is a U.S. based singer-songwriter, born in Spokane, Washington, whose musical career has spanned four decades from his early days playing in the Minnesota coffee houses to his present station in the Seattle area. He is still very active both in the recording studio and on stage.

Best known for his songs "Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues" (his only hit single, reaching #9 in the US charts) and "The Road", both of which were covered by a host of world-class performers, including the 1930s bandleader, Cab Calloway. O'Keefe's unique lyrical style and haunting melodies have solidified his reputation as one of the most important songwriters of his genre.[1] Though not always afforded the exposure gained by many of his peers, his songwriting talents and musicianship have been beyond question, a point validated by his co-writing of the environmental movement anthem, "Well Well Well", with Bob Dylan. In concert with his music and through his organization, 'The Songbird Foundation', O'Keefe has been active in the environmental field, helping to develop public awareness of the effect that indiscriminate coffee-growing techniques has on the songbird population.
His songs have been covered by numerous musicians including Jackson Browne ("The Road"), Elvis Presley, Judy Collins, Leon Russell, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett, Alison Krauss, Cab Calloway, etc.
