[edit] Early life
Dan Singer was born in Manhattan, New York. He was the first of three children of a Puerto Rican woman from the East River Houses of Spanish Harlem and a Brooklyn-born, Polish-Jew beat cop from her neighborhood.
Danny was a street kid who started writing graffiti at an early age and made a name for himself on the streets as a tough guy. His street name or graffiti tag was Lord Ezec.
[edit] Musical career
[edit] Introduction to music
In the 1980s, Jackson Heights and its surrounding neighborhoods became the center point for an offshoot of punk rock known as New York hardcore. Danny saw his first CBGB hardcore matinee in 1987. Danny quickly identified with the aggression and outsider attitude of this underground community. Having already found some underground notoriety while using his graffiti moniker, "Lord Ezec", Danny soon immersed himself in this world of misfits.
Having a reputation as a fierce, rugged fighter got Danny an invitation to become a roadie for Sick of it All on their 1992 US tour with Biohazard.
[edit] Crown of Thornz
In 1994 Danny formed the critically acclaimed NYHC act Crown of Thornz along with former Breakdown guitarist Mike Dijan and Shelter bassist Franklin Rhi. Crown of Thornz released their debut EP "Train Yard Blues" in 1995 on Equal Vision Records.
In 1995, Danny and Crown of Thornz took part in the N.Y.H.C. documentary. Their live performances were captured (including a fight breaking out during the opening song of their set) as well as an insightful interview where he speaks about the tragic suicide of his younger brother as well as the time he was stabbed by a crackhead.
In 1996, Crown of Thornz delivered their only full-length album, "Mentally Vexed" on Another Planet Records, a subsect of Profile Records. They officially disbanded in 1998.
[edit] Skarhead
1995 also found Danny branching off to form a new and more aggressive "Thugcore" side-project named Skarhead along with members of Madball and Subzero. Skarhead was conceived as a side-project featuring a revolving roster of notable hardcore personalities. Some of which include Freddy Madball, Lu DiBella of Subzero, Boston Mike, Mike Dijan of Crown of Thornz, Puerto Rican Myke from District 9 and Sammy Krslovic.
The "Drugs, Money, Sex" EP was released in 1996 on Another Planet Records as well. This was followed up in 1998 by the “Kings at Crime” full-length on Victory Records and the posthumously released live & best-of record, “NY Thugcore: The Hardcore Years 1994–2000” on Triple Crown Records in 2001.
Skarhead toured with Hatebreed, The Misfits, Gwar and Vanilla Ice in the late 90's.
Danny's father died in his arms on his mother's birthday in 1999 when he came home form touring with Vanilla Ice.
