Danner, Oregon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Danner is a former community located in Malheur County, Oregon, United States near Jordan Valley. It was named after J.H. Danner, one of the pioneer settlers in the community. The old Idaho-Oregon-Nevada highway ran through Danner, though the town is now off the main road and considered a ghost town. Danner is the location of the grave of Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, the son of Sacagawea. He died in Danner in 1866 while passing through on a stagecoach. His gravesite was entered into the National Register of Historic Places on March 14, 1973. The site of the town was previously known as "Inskip Station", after the Inskip (or Innskeep) family that kept a fortified inn and supply station in the 1850s and 1860s. A plaque marks the location of Inskip Station within sight of the resting place of Charbonneau.
