Danish Amsterdam Treaty referendum, 1998

The Danish Amsterdam Treaty referendum took place on May 28, 1998 in Denmark.[1] The Amsterdam Treaty was accepted by the Danish people, with 55.1 % voting in favour and 44.9 % voting against it, and a voter turnout of 76.2 %.[2] The Amsterdam Treaty consequently came into effect on May 1, 1999.[2]
The Danish parties and lists recommended voting as follows[3]:
- Social Democrats - yes
- Social Liberal Party - yes
- Conservative People's Party - yes
- Centre Democrats - yes
- Socialist People's Party - no
- June Movement - no
- People's Movement against the EU - no
- Danish People's Party - no
- Christian Democrats - yes, but members are free to vote as they wish
- Liberals - yes
- Progress Party - no
- Red-Green Alliance - no
