Foxxx was the only child of a Brazilian mother and a German-American Father. Her parents moved to the U.S. when she was 14 years old. She started crossdressing when she was 16 and subsequently decided to undergo hormone replacement therapy with her mother's support. She claims she realised she was bisexual only after her affair with Ariana Jollee who, according to her, is the first genetic girl she had sex with.[1].

Foxxx looks up to many transwomen such as Candice Cayne, Erica Andrews, Mimi Marks, Monica Munro, Vicki Richter and Roberta Close[1]. She calls Vicki Richter her porn mother and a mentor she can turn to for an advice when she needs it. Danielle now shares her name with a good friend and faithful protege, young rising gay film star Kyle Foxxx who is following in her footsteps one box cover at a time.[2].

Foxxx is a well known transsexual film actress in the U.S. porn industry. She was nominated for an AVN Award in 2005 for "Transsexual Performer of the Year".[3]. The 2006 movie, Up Close and Virtual With Danielle Foxxx, was the first high-definition, widescreen transsexual porn movie[2]. This movie is a sequel to "Up Close and Personal With Vanity". She has worked with many acclaimed transsexual movie directors such as Joey Silvera[2]. She has worked on the movies produced by well known studios such as Joey Silvera Video and Goodfella Productions[2]
Foxxx says she feels the lack of respect for transsexual people in the porn industry. Therefore she intends to work hard and do quality work with the aim of getting recognised by her peers so that she has a say in shaping their opinion of transsexuals in the industry [1].
In March 2008, it was reported online that Foxxx had undergone sex reassignment surgery and was looking to move into films on the heterosexual side of porn.[4]
